Land Rover Discovery - A good buy??
We have seen a 2001 LR Discovery for sale in a local garage for some time now for £4,995 - It seems to have every extra like leather seats and looks really nice - It runs on petrol and is automatic
As you may have guessed my husband and I don't know much about cars so any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance
xx.

land rovers discovery is a great vehicle the v8 petrol automatic is a great choice as well it goes like a train and sounds great too but if youre from the uk get an independent inspection from the aa or the rac it is a good price but it depends how many miles remember its generally supposed to be 10,000 miles per year from when it was built but try and get it for £4,200 and also you may want to spend about £1500 on an lpg conversion at 60p a litre or less its well worth the investment especially if you keep it for 3 years it should pay for it self hope this helps

You should buy with an eye toward fuel economy. The Land Rover uses an aluminum V-8 originally made by Buick back in 1963. It has maintenance issues (as do most British cars) and some have caught fire in accidents. How about an older Honda Odyssey mini van? Or pick an SUV that has good fuel economy.

Land Rovers are really nice luxury SUVs, but there are some drawbacks to them that you should consider. For one thing, Land Rover hasn't obtained the best reputation over the years as far as maintenance is concerned. Recently, my friend's dad purchased a Land Rover of similar vintage and it was still covered by the factory warranty. He got lots of things fixed on it right before the warranty expired.
So I'd recommend finding out whether or not the factory warranty is still in place. I'd also recommend taking it in for a pre-purchase inspection, because you can never be too careful. All and all, I think they're pretty nice trucks but make sure that you do your research ahead of time. You might also wanna consider fuel economy. I think you can expect to get about 14-15mpg city with their 4.0 V8.

My advice, DON'T.
It may look nice and its good for a family, but its kinda like unstable. You'll especially feel that if you keep it for a long time, with age it does become unstable and you feel that the car pieces together get out of their place or something... You may tell me this happens to all cars with age, but I'll tell you this one in particular does.
Another thing, if you drive at high speeds on a highway for example, its COMPLETELY unstable. At the times when my dad and I were driving on the highway at around 100 km/h or above, it gets out of control and even wind can move it about, you have to kinda struggle to keep it steady, however you don't experience this if you're moving about in the city with lower speeds.
Another thing to keep in mind, it is NOT fuel effecient AT ALL.
It's usual for 4-wheel drives, but I just wanted to point this out.
Also, I think the price is high-ish for it, 4000 would be good.
