1.3 Billion Chinese, what if we went to war with them?

Does anyone know how man people are in their army? Do you think the Chinese would over run any army they came upon? I was talking with my wife about this last night, and we're curious what people's thoughts are.

Update:

I'm not Chinese, I'm just curious of what people think

Update 2:

Matt, ah what? Nothing better to do then to critisize?

Update 3:

V, what's the point of answering the way you did? Move on please

China could not support a large war. Why? Their country is so riddled with poverty outside of the major cities that their own infrastructure would collapse while at war. People would starve due to the lack of food, water, and necessities going to the army. Storefronts and businesses would be robbed and there could possibly even be riots. Also, China's population is very large and could draft a large army but- most of these people are farmers and migrant workers. All highly untrained. It would take years and years to create a highly trained and ready army of millions, almost impossible.

China would not be able to support an oversees war or invasion, but if defending there country from an invasion they could win.

Oddly enough, the Chinese are not militant people like the US. Try to remember the last time China invaded another country and killed 100,000 people as in Iraq.

We already fought China once in Korea and it was a draw.

If we try to go to war with China, they could bankrupt us in ten years. No one is ever going to invade China again. They have nukes, a strong naval force, a first class air force and could put about 50 million men in the army. You do the math.

If we fight China how would we get bikes, clothes, electronics, computers, chopsticks, trinkets, toys, cars, car parts, motorcycles, TVs...... oh how exhausting.

After spending a year reading a Chinese English speaking chat room I think China has long term ambitions to take over Australian and New Zealand territory. Perhaps by forced mass immigration

If We is the United States We would win. China's navy can't invade but ours can. Their navy is small and technologicaly backward compared to ours. In fact, the PLAN would be at the bottom of the sea in very short order. Our aircraft are far superior. We have stealth and the top Chinese air superiority fighter is a cheaper knock off of the US' old F-16. We win the air war hands down. As for the troops, our air power would then conduct ground operations.

We have JSOW which can drop cluster munitions accurately down on vehicles guided by the engine's heat. Apache helicopters are made for killing tanks. Their armor and mechanized infantry would be target practice. Their foot infantry would also be vunlerable to death from above.

The US military was designed specifically to destroy numerically superior conventional forces. China wouldn't stand a chance.

Yes, they could overrun any country that isn't based on a continent where military force can be brought in to establish a perimeter.

Regardless, if this did happen, undoubtedly there would be huge areas of residence which the military would be unable to protect, so therefore it would become nessecary for people to protect themselves from the invading forces, if they are not evacuated.

If China was to go into a state of total war, no living army could stand before them - but that's true of any country.

it unlikely that there would be a war between nuclear powers , but in a conventional war alot of the chinese weaponary is inferior to americas , sadamm had a far larger army than the coalition nut lasted 3 days and he had the besy stuff that russia and china could sell him

The bottom line is : a) China is no friend of US; b) US is too weak to afford any more international confrontation; c) China has become a strongly armed country and is having fewer and fewer competitors around the world; d) China has a strong tendency to tie up with Russia to take over western domination in world stage. Next 8 to 10 years will be very critical to watch how the world changes.

You've basically answered your own question. They are such a highly populated country its preety hard to imagine what would happen.

America spend more than them on Military goods but Chinese army are just soooooooo big.

I think we would try just not to go to war with them.

Depends on the situation. Korea would be the model both sides would refer back to in a classic war. Meaning a stalemate would be sought after, with the current global economy such a conflict is unimaginable. In a nuclear exchange, those 1.3 billion would be BBQ in 15 minutes.

The Chinese army will coordinate and jump all at once. This will create a massive seismic wave, and the ensuing earthquake will cause the entire US army to crumble and plummet.
