First off NO NOT GIVE YOUR DOG COOKED CHICKEN BONES EVER! You should only be feeding the raw variety. Cooked chicken bones splinter easily and can become logged in the throat and could actually create tears in the throat and/or become logged in the dogs digestive bowels. The number of them you give a day will depend on the breed and activity level of the dog. Are you starting a natural diet for the dog to lose weight? Or do you just want your dog to have a more natural diet in general? I work at a boarding kennel and one particular dog thats a Giant Schnauzer gets this daily: 2 or 3 chicken wings about a 1/2 lb of lean ground beef with fresh peas and carrots mushed in...thats his morning meal and then he gets it again at night. A high grade dry food is given in small amounts as a treat but other then that he gets a raw diet. You can also give raw turkey legs for a treat/meal item..they love going to town on these. Bones and all. Another good treat for a dog on a raw diet is beef bones you get from the butcher. Dogs can eat a variety of vegetables and even fruit so look into a good source for all his vitamins and minerals. Just remember do not cook any of the meat! At least not the poultry!
