Could my dog be becoming a picky eater?

My dog has always been a good eater. For about the first year after we got him from the shelter he would eat as fast as he could. Around the time he turned 2 he would leave food in his bowl for awhile before eating it. We figured he had just grown up and also realized there would always be food there. Within the last 2 weeks, he has eaten very little. We give him lowfat plain yogurt because the vet felt it would help his sensitive stomach. He will always eat the yogurt but lately has only eat half or less than his normal serving amount. Because he has food allergies (vet diagnosed), he is on a limited diet. His food contains sweet potato and salmon as the main ingredients. I'm wondering if he is just getting sick of this food. My husband says dogs don't think that way but he eats yogurt and snacks (baby carrots and apple slices) like he always has. Now he is only eating his food if we feed him out of our hands or toss it to him like a treat. I do not want to promote this but worry that he is not eating enough. Can dogs get tired of the same thing day after day? I don't know what to do because there aren't many types of food left he can eat that don't make him sick. Thanks!

Update:

To add a little more about my dog - He is just over 2 years old. We got him from the shelter as a stray when he was approximately 10 months old. He is a lab mix and weighs about 90 pounds. He is very active - we run most mornings and walk every evening. We cannot think of anything that may have changed to bring on this lack of eating.

Maybe try cutting back on the snacks and treats, since he seems to be eating those with no problem, and see if he gets hungry enough to eat his food. You're right, you don't want him to get in the habit of only eating when hand-fed. It's a good sign though if he's still drinking and playing as usual though. If this continues on, a trip to the vet may be necessary to make sure all is fine.

    Good luck to you both!

it may be the everyday of nutrition and he or she is rejecting what her physique won't use (cornmeal, brewers rice, wheat gluten, ect) or she could be over fed. placed her on a feeding schedule and basically enable her one hour to consume when you place her nutrition down. If she would not consume then take the nutrition up until the subsequent time you feed. verify she is ingesting on an identical time popular. finally she would be ready to learn that she would be ready to consume then or wait. If she is going 3 days with out ingesting take her to the vet. A canines can stay for one week with out ingesting yet you do no longer desire to attend that long. you apart from mght could take be conscious if she starts off to become torpid or her abdomen expands. If this happens take her to the vet asap. do no longer upload any flavoring to her nutrition or provide her treats in it as this won't maximum astonishing the problem yet will basically enable her to consume what she needs and go away it. stable activity precious her with carrots although. they help combat micro organism that reason peridontis ailment and enhance the gums yet beware for specific end result specifically grapes and raisens.
