Are there any steps to file a greivance with JAG or the I.G?

You see, about a month ago, we were promised housing OCONUS once steps were made to show that our EFMP member actually should be considered top priority for family housing. We complied with the recieving housing chief's request and our incoming company commander and 1st sgt were told we were number 2 on the housing list. Once we arrived in country, we were dropped off the housing list and the housing chief denied our priority claiming that our EFMP medical condition did not warrant living on post. She supposedly had a pediatrician at our new duty assignment look over my son's records-which is a falsehood because the records were turned in 3 days AFTER the pediatrician supposedly looked them mover.

We have looked at housing off post, and all are new construction with new chemical smell and most are in new complexes being built. Both situations would extremely aggravate my son's asthmatic condition. We are told we have to visit the EFMP doctor here in order to get another letter stating that we shoul have priority for housing-eventhough we have that letter from the STATES.

There are written communications that exist between the company commander and housing and verbal communication between the 1st sgt and housing. How far can I push this issue to get us on the top of the list for housing?

You can get legal advice yeah from JAG and even consider writing the Commanding General once letting the chain of command know of your intentions. Sometimes, the threat alone will get something going unless your chain of command exhausted all means to get you what you obviously needed.

As for steps to filing? Just make an appointment and have all your information with you. This, providing there is grounds for filing a greivance to begin with. Call and get an idea first. Otherwise, they'll only give you the same advice as below.

Back to the situation. You've done everything possible to get your kid on the EFMP list and be accepted for housing. There seems to be alot of inconsitency to what is being said/done.

Your best bet is to apply again--and I know it sucks. Get approved again. Back up your new applications approval with the old one. Take that to the housing chief.

They can prove they're right as much as you can so that's why you need secondary applications to support your inital EMPF claim.

Keep all the written commo for safe keeping. It's not really all that important yet because they are NOT experts in this field to begin with. In other words, they really have no clue how to go about getting you help. Unless of course you're trying to prove dereliction of duty--that's a different story. Then I can see you being mad for them not doing enough at the minimum.

It's an uphill battle as you already suspect. Always use the chain of command. Remember who you talked to, what time and where--yada yada. Be informed. Take it to the top if you can't get what you need by a reasonable time.

If you need it now, let the people you know that the situation is diar. Forget moving your family anywhere that will irritate their asthma.

ALWAYS use their MDs if you can and if they have them. The more you use their system, the less they can argue against you. Good Luck with this one.

Probably not what you want to hear, but they can require you to see a medical doctor at the base to "update" medical information. Your best bet is to contact the previous case manager for the base you just left and ask them to contact the case manager for EFMP at the base you on are now. If that doesn't work. request a meeting with your husband's family readiness officer and explain the situation. Is the base housing private or still military? Getting the family readiness officer involved is the best bet if the housing is still military.

All you need to do is call or go in to the IG office...it is actually very simple. Look up their number and give them a call.
