He is being clingy because he has liked you for so long and he doesn't want to let you go now that he has you.
Give him another chance, and if he is really just too clingy to handle, tell him that maybe he is just a little too in your face (gently), and you just a bit more space, even though he is nice.
Or you could just break up with him of course!

End it now. Don't date someone just to have a boyfriend. Wait for someone you feel the spark with and aren't just having fun hanging around. You wont waste either one of your times then.

If you want this to work out then talk to him about it and tell him he's too clingy, if you don't have feelings for him then just end it.
