Can you install your own flat-screen TV?

We are buying a 40 inch Sony Bravia TV. There is a cut-out area in our new living room where the TV on the base will fit perfectly.

Some salesmen (and even my parents) are trying to convince us we need to pay a hefty fee for installation. Is this really necessary? How much more difficult is it to set up a flat-screen tv than it is a regular one? What will the professional installers know how to do that we will not?

I know they are heavy buy my husband and cousin who will be helping are both strong.

Also my cousin has the equipment to calibrate the TV once it's set up and we have been using it or a while.

if its just a tv and cablebox then don't pay the fee...

they offer the installation to "tidy up the wiring"

the sony bravia are decent sets and 40 inch should be easy enough to lift...

and pretty much all AV cables are color coded and you can tell where to plug things in at... do it yourself save some money.

choose for it, do in basic terms no longer construct roaring fires or save on with hearth logs. whether that's gas then i would not propose it. by potential of how, purchase a liquid crystal show over a Plasma, they run cooler and devour little or no means. They final approximately as long as a Plasma yet Plasma does have a greater photograph. evaluate how the wires are going to be consealed interior the partitions besides. An Electrcian could cord the means and in line with threat the A/V cables if he has the understanding for it or get a competent cabling guy from a electronics save or cable employer that might actually assist you.

Don't pay the salesmen. It is just a way to get more money from you. That being said, mounting a television is a two person job. You have to make sure that you mount the bracket on studs. You also have to make sure you are using a correct VESA pattern. Use a level when mounting the television and make sure you measure twice.

You should be able to do it just fine.

Unless you have a million devices to set up on the t, DO NOT pay for installation. LCD TVs are relatively light in weight, so you can lift it with your husband.

    Hope this helps :)

no reason to pay for this. you can do it yourself with a few conditions.

    1. mounting is at least a 2, if not 3 person job.

    2. use a level, dont' try to eyeball it. nothing is worse than having to redrill

    3. make sure that it's mounted into studs. if not, you will hear a loud crash and get a big surprise when it rips through the drywall.
