How did Japan modernize their economy without embracing Western culture?

    Without embracing western culture? If any country in that area of the world has embraced western culture, it's Japan.

    They haven't done this without embracing western culture. Some of them even try to look westernized. I've been to Japan and I saw quite a few Japanese girls with blonde hair. I think they look better with their natural hair color but they have become "westernized" sure enough. Its a new culture called Gunguro. I wish everybody would just stay true to who they are and not try to be someone else.

    They didn't. They modernized their country while embracing a lot of western culture.

    They didn't. Instead they chose to dominate western culture rather than letting the reverse happen. This is why they make so many things(videogames,tvs,computers) and continue to innovate in these areas

    They couldn't. It was pretty much mandatory. If memory serves me correct, I remember something about a war with the US and the Japanese people were documented to have been in "awe" at the ships the US were using which then led Japan into going down the route of technological advancement.
