Instead of watching TBN the, as some call it, Total Blasphemy Network, you should open up your Bible...
2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
..and then get hooked up with a good Bible teaching, Christ honoring, Spirit led church like the one I attend where there are "offering boxes" placed around the building so that people can give to support the work being done there without having to feel self conscious about putting something into a plate being passed around http://www.alcf.net/

Thats a massive assumption you're making. Almost as big as your narcissism. Christianity is not the only religion that asks for money. Islam, Judaism, Buddism, and virtually all world religions must function in an economy where currency is exchanged for goods/services. TBN is full of sh!t. Since when do they (or any one group) represent the majority? Is it wrong to use money? Okay, lets see you run a non-profit organization. Build it from the ground up on a budget of $0.
You cant. Whether the preacher is reaching his hand back into the offering plate is beside the point. All organizations - religious or otherwise - require some amount of money to function. Thats how it is.

I agree! The message of Christ should be free as is the gift of salvation that has been paid in full.. I do not watch TBN!
I seen Rod Parsley back in July and he was sickening. He was racist.. commenting about black skin.. he was bragging about his children who have 4.0 grades. He showed all his dvds and tapes and told people to buy them, they are half price. He was sickening.. A lot of people thought he would be praying for them after the service but no he cut out the moment he finished.
I also have seen Steve Hill and I liked him much better, he prayed for everyone who wanted prayer, although they all ask for money.

Don't be ashamed of Christ or the Bible, but it is quite all right to be ashamed of religion, you are now on the path to spirit of Truth and the freedom in Christ. I quit watching TBN also, and I let them know why.
Where do you think Islam gets its money? How about the Hindus? We just don't televize these services nationally.

Julienne,
I am sorry that you are ashamed of "your religious heritage". Those who do such things are not studying the same BIBLE that I am. They are more concerned with their own wealth then of Salvation. My wife and I became Christians about twenty years ago and will remain faithful until death. The Bible says to give as we are prospered. We do so but I do not listen to most of the religious nuts on TV or radio. Have a great weekend.
Thanks,
Eds

I was never, ever asked for money prior to becoming a Christian.
Christians do tithe at their church or to a ministry of their choice.
I would, for instance, consider sending money for books etc if I wished to support a ministry.
TBN is not available here, to my knowledge. I did see it once years ago and was very put off.

Good then don't practice it. Just don't knock other's for their beliefs.
There are scams everywhere. People use religion b/c so many people are naive when you slap God's name on it. It is not Christianity, it is the individual.
EDIT: Wow, by definition "religion" is a set of beliefs and practices. Do you feel stupid right about now?

No, they really can't. The money isn't even used on the church members. A few preachers on TV are very rich, while thousands of families are on the brink of starvation. So much for church charity.

when Jesus was instructing his disciples on the way to teach His word He was very dirct and insistant that they NOT take a beggars bag with them when they taught
also He said beware for many shall come in My name but i did not send them
in other word not all "christians" r true Christians begging for money when the Word is taught is a good sign that u may be in the wrong church
