How accurate are the sex results of an ultrasound?
My husband and I are pregnant with our 1st.YAY!!! I am only 10 weeks so I still have a few more weeks to go until we find out the sex, but what I was wondering is, how accurate is the ultrasound? What if they tell me its a girl but it comes out a boy, or the other way around.

Most of the time ultra sounds are accurate. Now days with the 3 and 4 d ultra sounds it makes it even more accurate at telling the sex of the baby. Good luck & congrats on the baby!

A doctor said it should be very accurate (somewhere between 95 and a hundred percent), particularly after about 20 weeks, or even sixteen. However he says again that one must remember the sonologist may not always get a good view of the perineum (private parts) of the fetus for a variety of reasons and therefore may not furnish you with an "accurate" answer. One really needs to put this question to the person who performs the scan. He or she is the only person to be in the position to tell you just how accurate "that" particular diagnosis is.
In my case, I had my ultrasound a few days ago and it's a boy. They showed a photo of the baby's "manhood" and the doctor said she was 99 percent sure about the baby's sex. They can tell you a sure answer if it's after 20 weeks.

It's possible that can happen. They can only guess as to what the baby is. In some cases the vulva (vagina) swell on a girl in the womb and causes a false reading. The only true ways to find out the "for sure" sex is an amnio screen or birth. Most times they are right on ultrasounds though, even guessing

Depends on how the baby cooperates/moves. I had my sonogram yesterday at 24 wks and we got a definite shot between the legs, more than proving to all 5 of us in the room that it is indeed a boy. In my case, the results are 100% accurate because we saw the penis and scrotum...in my friend's case...she was told on 3 different ultrasounds that it was a girl, and then one month before baby comes she went back in and they found the penis! Boy was she shocked....she wasn't too happy with the pink nursery at that point.

I can honestly say they a usually not wrong. There is either a penis or their isn't. When I was pregnant the first time they were able to see they said more than likely it was a girl because they did not see a penis but in a later ultrasound, the tech was like I can't give you a definite (she freeze framed my baby) she said the baby's legs are here and there is no penis so it's more than likely a girl, i just can't say definitely a girl by law. and she smiled.
And for sure I had a beautiful baby girl.

there is an extremely small threat that they may be incorrect. At my 15 week ultrasound they instructed me that they have got been ninety six% constructive that it would be a boy and then at my 20 week they mentioned they have been ninety 9% constructive it grow to be a boy and he's a boy! lol so i think of they're notably precise at the instant. Now 17 years in the past they instructed my mom that she grow to be having a woman and the scientific medical doctors swore she grow to be having a woman and then she extra a boy! lol she had all woman stuff and had to commerce each thing in for boy stuff. yet technologies has come a protracted way on account that then!

If you wait until you’re about 18-20 weeks they will be able to see much more clearly. Ask the ultrasound tech how certain she/he is. They may bring in another person just for a second opinion. Although they are usually correct now days. Good luck!!

they are pretty accurate with the sex of the baby. it also depends on the positioning of the baby. if its a boy your doctor will point out the testes and the penis. they're usually never wrong now. its most accurate after 20 weeks though. good luck =]

when u have your ultra sound ask him or her what there % is, i asked mine and she said if she wasnt 100% sure on what the sex was she would have us come back in 3 weeks for a follow up. Even at that if u have another ultra sound after your 20 weeks they will look again.
