Who came up with "Its not fair"?

I hear this phrase all the time and I was wondering who went around advertising FAIRNESS in order to have this phrase exclaimed by many?

Was it hinted at by a Justice system? I don't think so because justice is not often fair.

What I want to know is...who or what is responsible? I'm looking to lay down some blame.

Probably the Israelites. God led them from Egypt into the desert. Immediately, they started complaining and wanted to return to the people that abused them.

My theory is that Mom's raising multiple children try to treat each of them fairly, and children have a sense of "being treated equally" as "fair". I also note that often (especially an only child) a child will scream "that's not fair" when they don't get the portion they want, even if their amount is equal to others who received portions.

So if it comes to laying blame, I guess you have to look towards mothers. They are the only ones I know of who try to teach fairness to their children.

Josie, that really doesn't answer the question. Where does it come from? Must have some origin. Kant explains it as "The Universal Law of Nature." Kierkegaard calls it "The Concept of Dread." However, most philosophers would agree it predates human reason and any social law.

You can blame those who insist that over half the world is wrong when they say we have been here before.

And equally to blame are those who teach that we can do wrong things and just pass the suffering on to Jesus. More on all these misleading ideas is in my biography.

    ME...

    and nobody gives me credit...

    that's so unfair

    But seriously though.

every three year old makes it up anew.

this type of "fair" is interesting, it assumes rights to certain things. I think certain things are common, expected, and necessary but are they rightly mine? Do I deserve them?

It's good for us to move away from the "what I ought to get" mentality on to the "how should I respond" mentality

  • Probably Job, after seeing the "rewards" God bestowed upon him after God lost everything he ever loved or owned in His "Poker Game" with Satan.

I think it's just something within each of us -- we all want at least a sense of equality

    The very first teenager.

To which Mom & Dad replied, "Life's not fair, deal with it."

And every kid and every parent have used those lines ever since.

    ;)

It was just some loser who didn't get the memo that nobody ever promised life would be fair.
