I read that the GOP convention is having problems generating excitement?

Just a few years ago, conventions were real news. Networks covered them 'gavel to gavel', and people watched every night, just like the Olympics, because there was real suspense and mystery. The last few go-rounds, the conventions have been real snorrers because the candidates were all known beforehand. They have become no more than infomercials for the party, and the networks hardly even pay any attention.

So what could McSame do to generate huge interest in the GOP convention? He could drop out of the race! This has been suggested.

Suppose just before the convention, McCain announces that he can't take the pace of the campaign, that his health is failing him. He politely bows out. Now the GOP convention is Big News once again. The networks hang on every word. All the phoney pundits at CNN and FOX scream at each other about who the party should pick to replace him. It might be one of the other candidates from the primaries, or it might be someone new, a fresh face.

Now the new guy, the fresh face, is the big hero, you know, taking on huge odds, getting into the race so late and all. He becomes the hero of the media and Obama is relegated to back-burner status.

Anyway it's an idea. I really don't think the Republicans have a chance with McCain.

If he picks Lieberman it would stir up more than a buzz but it won't bring any more folks to the Republican National Convention.

You're right about the excitement. Because for your info, republicans never made a big deal about their convention. It was more of a place just to formally nominate the person and give a few speeches and get air time. The democrats however have to stage a final Hillary vs. Obama fight. Still nobody really knows who's going to win that debacle, so that's probably why everybody, including me a republican wants to see it. It'll be interesting to see a thriller and bloody movie in live reality action. Personally, I wishHillary would win. I may actually abandon the Republican party and vote for her.

Does a convention matter? What matters are the policies, like abortion, taxes. the economy, immigration and the direction of the war. So come November when McCain skunks Obama you will learn a valuable lesson about all of the excitement the lights and the money that was spent!

The people who aren't coming are mostly people who are running for re-election and don't want to be connected that intimately with Bush OR McCain. My state's Republican Senator isn't going. He is getting his *** kicked by his Democratic opponent and doing everything he can in his campaign spots to distance himself from Bush. It's really kind of funny.

I HOPE McCain picks Lieberman. Talk about kiss of death.

They'll ramp it up, when the time comes. Conventions are full of empty spectacle anyway, no matter who's there.

Yes, it's true. there are 10 (and counting) Republican super-delegates that said they can't make it.

If he picks Leiberman as VP, he is ruined. The right wingers will be pissed!

I heard on CNN that he doesn't consult with anyone regarding his choice for VP, unlike Obama who hired a team of Veep consultants including JFK's daughter.... so he may just pick Leiberman. I wouldn't be surprised, he says and does whatever he wants, That's why members of his campaign keep quitting on him.

And as far as excitement for the convention, there is no excitement for the GOP candidacy so what should one expect?
