Problem with spark plug/cylinder on 98 honda civic?
Just recently my car has been idling high, at around 1700 to 1800 rpms. When i looked at the engine i could see one of the spark plug wires was loose where it connected to the engine, and would not "lock on." I turned the car on and could then see the same wire vibrating. When i put my hand on top of the wire, where it connected to the engine, i could feel it knocking.
Oh, and when accelerating there is a loud ticking/clicking noise, but when i am just maintaining speed it is not there.
Just a side note and i don't know if this matters but right before all this started happening i had taken a bunch of my friends out and there was about 750lb of people in the car. (I have some large friends :)
I would greatly appreciate any help that can be given, and please go easy on me seeing as i know very little about cars.

lots of possibilities here! If you have another wire there about same length, swap them out, -- but remove very carefully, as "wires" now days are not really wire! They are carbon strands wrapped in a thin fabric coating with a lot of insulation on outside! They are easily damaged! If worried about getting in right place, just pull one wire completely out , -remove spark plug end on second, - and plug "loose one" in on plug, - then pull other end off, and ,- put (other end of) one on plug now-- in to the place you just pulled wire from, -- now the other one can be plugged in!.. If the noise stays in same place the problem is not wire or wire connections!
If noise is now moved to the (different) sparkplug position, it may be a bad wire, and spark is jumping inside insulation across "broken strand".. Note here that the problem may be a whole lot worse, as you may have disturbed wire internally and made problem worse! Wire in this condition may not fire plug well at idle, -- and in some cases not "fire" plug at all! So if squeezing the internal contacts together with pliers a Little did not help it, you probably need a new wire!
And if noise inside engine instead, - then you have a "whole new can of worms" to explore!
PS: Fat friends do not ruin plug wires (unless they sit or stand on them)!

The ticking you are hearing is the electrical arc from the wire to the plug. take a pair of pliers and compress the the connecter inside the boot where it connects to the plug and replace the wire.

what you feel is spark knock. take a pair of plyers and squeeze the end closed a little bit so it will fit tighter on the plug.
