There are some nice spots along Allen Parkway with great skyline views, Sam Houston Historical Park at Bagby & Allen Parkway, the Japanese Garden at Herman Park, the Rainforest Pyramid at Moody Gardens, & the Butterfly exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science are a few places.

Pearland is growing from a sleepy little city to a hot spot right now with lots of new construction. Houston does not have a beach and Galveston is 60 miles away. Clear Lake has some of the advantages of both. The East Side, an area divided North and South by I-45, is the worst area. Just north of I-10 to Beltway 8 is and area I would not live in. The West Side includes the villages of Memorial and River Oaks which are regarded as the two most presigeous areas. I live in Piney Point, a village of Memorial, and it is heavan with good schools, big lots and nice houses. Sugarland and Katy are far west, south and due west respectively, and are medium to great houses with good neighborhoods and shopping for less money but a greater commute to downtown. The Heights is closer to downtown and is mixed but very in right now. You should look there as well. Public schools can be a probelm there. Have fun and welcome to Houston.

I see lots of people taking photos on the RICE campus. Normally on Sunday Afternoons when there aren't a lot of people about. I don't know what Rice's policy regarding this is. Parts of UH Main Campus are nice, if you are going for an Art Deco Concrete kind of look...personally I think their buildings are pretty ugly for the most part.
There is also the Japanese Garden in Herman Park. That is just across from Rice.
Palmer Church (which is right between Rice and Herman Park) also has some very nice spots. Watch out though, it has a big homeless outreach ministry (they feed a free breakfast six days a week) and unless the METRO cops are actively cracking down, there can be a goodly number of unsavory, and less than photogenic homeless men hanging around, camping, sleeping, or passed out in the park area just north of the Chuch.

Vargos Restaurant's grounds are beutifully landscaped, as are The Rainbow Lodge, and Las Alamedas.
CityWest on Westhimer at City West Blvd. (close to the Beltway) has a small beautiful pool and landscaped area.
The Houston Zoo has beutifully landscaped
grounds and for that matter the Japanese Gardens in Hermann Park is one of the most romantic places in the city.

The duck pond/animals at Bear Creek park between Elridge and Hwy 6. The duck pond is down from the baseball fields and across the road. It's really pretty over there.
Addick's Dam is another interesting place to take photos when they have the water coming out of the spill way. It's on Hwy 6 between Katy freeway and Briar Forest. If you take Hwy 6 down to Westhimer and turn right onto Westhimer and then take the next right, pass by the armory and it will take you to Bush Park. Lakes, trees, rifle range, baseball fields, soccer fields are back there.
Just some idea's for you. Have fun

The big fountain near Hermann Park
The campus of HBU
The campus of Rice University from any tall building in the Medical District.
The Astrodome from the inside of Reliant Stadium
That lonely stretch of Main St. that passes alongside of Butler Field.
The tidal flats along Interstate 45 just before you reach the Galveston Bay area.

Mercer Arboretum is pretty nice. It's on the smaller side and I think they might be doing some construction now but when everything is normal, it's a very pretty place to take pics of flowers.

Buffalo Bayou Park, go down near the bayou where you can get shots of the trees, grass and water with the tall downtown buildings in the back ground.
Downtown, where you can play with the perspective and angles of the buildings.
