My mom had my sister and I trained before we were 2, amazingly. My kids are 18mths and 2.7 and they're not close to being trained. My daughter can use the potty if she has no diaper on, but as soon as I try to put clothes on her, she gets comfy and forgets, and then relieves herself.

I think its good to start getting him used to the potty now. Just getting used to it. Have him sit on there for a minute or two. If he goes, then get excited for him. He might connect the two sooner rather than later.

This is kind of gross, but my son's DR suggested that I put my son's poo in the toilet and then have him sit over it for a minute, so he gets used to knowing the scent should come from him when he's on the toilet. Does that make sense to you? Hope so. Boys have a problem, more than girls, with having a bowel movement into the toilet.

The other thing I did was made sure my daughter could tell when she went potty in her diaper. The easiest thing for me was when she went poop. I'd ask her and check her diaper, and I've get excited when she did. It got to the point where she recognized her movements, and she'd come tell me with excitement. lol. So, that helped her with the recognition of when its occurring.

So, getting her used to it, making sure she recognized when she went, and letting her run around naked (with the potty nearby) worked out for me.

From the research I've done its good to have them go after they wake up and before they go to bed. Also, its good to start tracking their relief patterns. If they're pees and poops are pretty much predictable, that's supposed to be one of the "signs" they're ready, or getting there.

    Hi there,

    Probably anytime after 2

Toilet training occurs when the brain and the body team up together, usually around 2 years old, starting too early can actually set them back. At this age he wouldn't understand what her body was doing and probably start weeing on the floor.

you can still let him sit on the potty when your giving him no nappy time but just don't expect anything of him and by the time se is two it will be easy. This is what i do with my daugher the potty is a fun experience at the moment that happens b4 bath time(she is 15months)

signs of getting ready to be trained are usually when they can tell you what they are doing and also hiding whilst going to the toilet. night time training comes much later.

I have had over 10 years experience with toilet training so i really hope this helps you and run a consultancy on parenting and wouldn't recommend starting before 2 unless the child showed clear signs.

    good luck with everything.

about 2 years old. i worked at a daycare and a lot of the children in the 2 year old room were potty trained. the infant room (1- 1 1/2 yr olds) still needed their diapers changed...so 2 is when they should be, although i mainly stayed in the 3 year old room and they all could go potty. there were about....2 kids out of the 30 i was normally with that had to be trained... but by age 3, they should be able too. if not, they will be really far behind a lot of kids- i'm also in college and graduating with a degree in child development and the avg. age for children to be fully potty trained is age 3.

Around 2 depending on their interest and communication skills. Make sure you talk to them about the potty in a positive way before you begin. If you try for a while and he/she shows no interest, then wait a couple months. My oldest was 2 and a half when she really got interested. My second child just turned 2 and doesn't have any interest yet.

My daughter started using the potty at 14 months but i knew that was to young to push her into doing it all the time i started at 20 mo old date and within three days she was fully potty trained, but every child is different you do it when they show intrest in it. By the way boys are harder to train then girls and aren't always ready as fast as girls are.

Whenever your child is ready, there is no set age. When he starts to show interest in the potty, you'll know its time! My son just turned two in May, and we just started potty training.

I tried a few times around 2 and by 27 months he was trained. It's really when the kid shows signs of being ready. Everyone is different.

I was very lucky, my daughter decided she didn't want to wear nappies anymore so started to go to the toilet one day and never wore a nappy again and she was 2 and a half

When your child can sleep through the night and stay dry is the best time to start. This is when they are learning to use and control their sphincter muscles.
