Actually, you usually ovulate 14 days before the start of your NEXT period. So if your cycles aren't exactly 28 days long, the 14 day average doesn't apply.

(And there is some range anyway -- 12-16 days before the start of the next period is the usual range.)

Count backwards 16 days from the expected start of your next period, and being 'trying' about 5 days before that -- since sperm can live for 3-5 days. Keep 'trying' until you are sure you've ovulated.

Yes you can ovulate anytime within your cycle. The 14 days is just an average. If your cycle is shorter like 20 days or longner like 36 days you're going to ovulate at a different time, not the 14 day average. My doctor told me to take the last 3 months and see how long my cycle was from period to period, then average those days to get about how long my cycle was. It was quite difficult to pinpoint my exact day of ovulation because my cycle was so screwed up-one month it was 29 days, 2nd month it was 32 days and the third month it was 43 days. It's quite frustrating!

I used the ovulation kits that you buy from the store to help. We were trying to 1 1/2 years to get pregnant and after I started using the ovulation sticks I got pregnant on the 3rd month after I started using them.

    Good luck!

Each woman's cycle is different. Unless you have done a cycle chart using basal body temperature and natural family planning you probably have no idea of when YOU ovulate. Plus, we don't necessarily ovulate every month, so even if you plan everything right it might not happen or the sperm just might not make it. Millions of sperm dispersed only sometimes equate to one getting in, so it's not the easiest thing in the world even though it seems like it should be. For your best shot, have intercourse often during the fertile period, or heck- all month long :) But don't stress about it because people who try too hard often have great difficulty getting pregnant. Actually, the more correct generalization of ovulation time is 14 days BEFORE your NEXT period.

This can vary by many days and every woman is different. Go to your local Walmart store and buy some OVulation Prediction Kits so you know when you ovulate.

Keep in mind sperm generally live 2-3 days, but as many as 5, in a fertile environment.

It is possible to be honest. The best thing to do is monitor your cm and bbt each day and that way you'll know for definite when you are about to or have ovulated. What got me pregnant was:

    1. Have sex every second day from day after period has finished until the week before your next one is due

    2. Relax - if you do step 1 you are bound to catch ovulation day and there is no need to be like a headless chicken!

I gave up everything except obviously sex and didnt think about getting pregnant until the day my af didnt show up on time. I took a test that day and got 5 bfp out of 6 hpt!

everyone is different.. they say 10-14 days is a pretty good average, but you could technically do it the day after your LMP.. 5 days.. theres not really any way to say for sure. have you tried an ovulation monitor.. or just intercourse on a daily basis...lol
