Where to park overnight in the French Quarter, New Orleans, LA?

I will be staying in the French Quarter this weekend but will not have a place to park. Where should I take my car that's walking distance from the quarter and no more than ten bucks per day? I really don't plan on using it once I am there. It's a rental so I would like someplace extra safe if possible?

Most of the Vieux Carre (French Quarter) has a two restriction on parking. Unless you have a residential permit, after two hours you will get a ticket (and maybe towed). The cheapest option is to park in the Faubourg Treme (the neighborhood immediately adjacent to the Quarter just across N. Rampart. You'll have to find a place between St. Phillip and ESplanade however because the upper portion is also commercial with meters. After 6:00pm, and on weekends, you can park for free at meters on N. Rampart or in the Central Business District (just across Canal Street from the Quarter). In general, in the Quarter, you do not need a car and it is more of a liability than an asset. Hotel lots tend to be very expensive. There is a public lot along the riverfront between the Quarter and the MIssissippi, but I have no idea what they charge. New Orleans was planned at the Versailles Palace way back in 1699. For some odd reason, they didn't plan for automobile parking !?

I don't think you're going to find parking that cheap in the French Quarter, I'm sorry to say. If you park outside the quarter, just be careful where your lot as located. I do not recommend street parking at all, though.

An idea: do you really need a rental to go anywhere in New Orleans? Last time, I left the rental behind; just caught the airport shuttle directly to my hotel, and then took the Magazine Bus or St. Charles Streetcar or a cab everywhere else. I did this to specifically avoid the dilemma you are facing. I recommend no car at all, if you can.

There are numerous parking lots in the quarter, but if it's safety you're looking for, I would pay the extra bucks and park in one of the hotel garages. When I go the quarter for the day, I park in the lot next to the Jax Brewery building--the address is 600 Decatur--it's safe but I'm not sure about leaving it overnight...

I'd park at the Canal Place shopping center. I think its 22 a day, but its a little more safe than the streets. Also, any of the big lots on decatur st (by Jax brewery).. still gonna be more expensive. You could find yourself driving in circles looking for a free street parking spot. And with all the drinking going on, i'd hate your car to get sideswiped.

I wouldn't bother with a car at all. You don't need one. If you plan on needing the rental to go elsewhere..rent one then. Enterprise will bring you a car when you need one.
