What does the bridge part in "Famous Last Words", By My Chemical Romance Mean?

I get the rest of the song but i just don't understand what these lyrics are supposed to mean...:(

I see you lying next to me,

With words I thought I'd never speak,

Awake, and unafraid.

Asleep, or dead.

'Cause I see you lying next to me,

With words I thought I'd never speak,

Awake, and unafraid.

Asleep, or dead.

I don't get why they are lying and like awake unafraid asleep dead...ya please tell me.

cause i see you lying next to me - he finally found someone who'll stay with him .

with words i thought i'd never speak - "i love you"

awake and unafraid - trying to be brave

asleep or dead - which is more desired ? living through it but blindly or not living at all ?

    hope i helped !

he's with a person that is telling him things he thought he'd never hear from them, and he's not afraid.
