Command/Base/station assignment Determination??
Does anyone know what or how they determine where someone will get stationed once they leave A school?? Is it by the job or just a luck (or unluckiness) of the draw?? And if it is determined by your job, what is the easiest way to search to find what bases and commands need the rate that you are assigned??
Thank you Seaman Apprentice, I have already been out of boot and A school for a while, this is for a friend who is at Great Lakes RTC right now he is stuck there for 5 and a half months because they changed his A school from VA beach to Great lakes...

My stepson is in IC A school right now. he's been told: West Coast duty stations ONLY will be available to choose from. so even though he wants East Coast.. he ain't gonna get it.
to have the best shot..graduate top in your A school class.. you will then have the most choices to pick from. Of course they could all be to Norfolk... but he will at least be ableto choose the platform....

Hey, Im in the navy, and im actually in that situation right now! im currently in STS (sonar sub surface) "A" school, im coming in on my last few weeks, They way my command did it was by class rank, they higher up you were in standings the sooner you picked, So try harder and you will have better choices. I have heard that some schools it is random, and some do it other ways, but i have lots of friends currently going throuhg all types of schools and so far all work the same as mine. As for for the job part it is the needs of the navy, for my rate i there were only 7 choices that i could have been possibly presented, if your going subs in the navy then that is what you will have, for surface i have no idea. If you really want to know talk to your recruiter, i assume you haven't gone to boot yet but i could be wrong, if you are already at your duty station ask some one in a class before yours,
wish you the best of luck, hope this helped.
