no they don't take up much space. you can set your browser to delete all files after the browser closes.

Click on your 'Start' button; then: 1. All Programs, then 2. Accessories, then 3. System Tools, then 4. Disk Cleanup. Wait until your computer checks your system for temporary internet files (and other unneeded files as well) then click on 'delete. After that, you may want to go through the steps above but rather than clicking on Disk Cleanup, click on Disk Defragmenter, then Analyze. Your system will tell you if you should perform this task. I do both of the above at least once a wekk.

Yes, it's safe. Temporary files are just there so that some pages load faster. For example, if you're a frequent visitor to Yahoo! Answers, your browser might save the background images and banner and Yahoo! logo to speed up loading.
If you delete these files, it will simply mean that the browser will re-download them. No big deal.
Your temporary files also probably include files to sites that you won't visit again (or not for a while, at least).

Sure. No problem. (Really). You can just delete them. But you can also go into IE and open the internet settings, find the setting for the amount of hard disk space reserved for temp internet files and reduce it. The default setting is about ten times higher than it needs to be.

It is safe to delete them. Yes, they do take much space but not extreme because your browser automatically delete them after a certain amount of days. When you install a browser it should tell you what is the recommended hard drive space it requires.
