Again sexual abuse at a NSW Catholic Boys School ?
When is enough a enough ?
A 65-year-old former priest at the private school in Bathurst, in central-western NSW, is facing 33 charges, following allegations of a Pedophile ring comprising priests and teachers at the private school during the 1980s. Claims of late-night prayer sessions, which included chanting, where boys were sexually abused. NSW Police Superintendent said at least 13 people had come forward with allegations of abuse.
How many more will come forwarded now the cat is out of the bag ?

If it's true, I hope they all come forward. If it's not true I hope they announce that as well.
Again, even though these claims are currently in the news they are all at least 20 years old. No, this doesn't make it okay, and the victims suffer no matter how long ago it happened. But the time period is a factor. Many people were sexually abused, in many areas of life, prior to the laws about sexual abuse being enacted. We did not have the programs and policies in place then, that we do today.
But just for the record:
There are 500,000 accusations of child sexual abuse made in America each year. Between 1950 and 2002 there were 4392 priests accused (not convicted) of sex abuse. If you do the math, that is 84.4 priests per year. Obviously this number is less than even 1/2 of a percent of the total accusations made each year. This means there are 499,916 persons accused each year who are not Catholic clergy.
In fact the school system has a worse problem then the Catholic Church. Recently we heard about child sex abuse among UN peace keepers. If you google this, you'll find that there were reports of this as early as 2004 and yet here we are 4 years later and nothing has been done.
Here are a few links to give you just a small sampling of the real problem:

Isn't it disgusting. These priests are in a great position of trust, and kids look up to them. It's horrific that this has happened. I was raised a Catholic, and went to Catholic schools (this never happened to me) but when I hear of all the abuse I think more and more that the Catholic Church is corrupt and hypocritical. I heard the Catholic Church was the richest "organisation" in the world until Bill Gates came along. Yet our local Catholic hospital had to close down due to lack of funding... It all makes me sick!

He has been accused, but last time I checked a man was innocent before proven guilty. Now, if this priest did indeed abuse children, he should be punished harshly and removed from his duties.
Before jumping all over the Catholic Church remember less than 1% of Catholic priests have been found guilty of abuse. You will find that the vast majority of child molestors can be found outside of the Catholic Church.
So what are all of you non-Catholics doing about the sexual abuse of minors?? Hmmm?
And let us not forget to pray for priests!
Peace be to you all+

Milly, you said a "pedophile ring", I read the article and such accusation it doesn't become available in said articles?, this is not to say that if such acts where committed against a child, the person involved should be punish, although he is already with one foot in hell.
its hard to make any point to this, and to which better for the children's in questions its up to God, do my experiences with priest and the priesthood, when i was a child is some how different, though I hope the one responsible for this intentional aggravation to a child, get what they deserve. Hell!

I can say that any is too much, I don't understnad "when is enough enough?" What do you mean?
Because right now wht iis important is the truth and the survivors, and everyone else including you needs to take a back seat to the survivors.
Thank you for the information, where is the link.
allecat EWTN - there are various reaon this type of abuse is not repoted until years later, invludint hte hideous things that perpatroatrs say tot he sruvivors that will hapen to htem if they talk. so, back off and thing of the well being of the survirovrs only.
the church that I love can handle anything thrown at it.

This kind of thing is going on so long now its good people are going to be held accountable ,the catholic church is paying out so much compensation now they will fight it all the way.I feel sorry for decent priests and people who get tarred with the same brush but the hypocrisy is sickening.

The Catholic Church needs to seriously re-examine the age old systematic child abuse through the guise of celibacy. The celibacy amongst the clergymen were instituted by the church to protect their assets from leaking out as inheritance. The celibacy in the church is based on greed rather than holiness because there is nowhere in the Bible calls the priests to be mandatoraly celibat.

Gee, why wasn't this addressed in the 80's instead of waiting almost 20 yrs to say anything about it. Looks to me like people are just wanting to get their hands on some easy money. It makes me sick that people will suddenly accuse people of things years after it supposedly happened. Hell, every time someone tried anything with me, and I went to public university, I reported them on the spot. So what's up with this crap?

I wish people would realise the word allegation, he has not been charged
I live near that area and I know a lot of boys have made up that story to get publicity, I had cousins that went to that School at that time and nothing happened to them, and they knew the Priest well

i'm in agreement with allecat EWTN. i think they just want some easy money so they're accusing priests of something that didn't happen.
