Getting looks from family-slipped this baby girls name..what do you think?
My husband and I have FINALLY decided on a baby girls name that we BOTH love!...something we have been struggling with for months now. The name is Emersyn Olivia. We are spelling it Emersyn because after much research we have found that this IS the correct feminine form spelling and Emerson is the masculine.
We love it, especially that she can go by the nickname Emmy while she's little.
Now I slipped this name to ONE family member which I promised I wouldn't but I'm getting slack for it being a "weird" name. I don't think it's weird at all! We have a 3 year old daughter named Kendal Rae that that isn't exactly common and I get a lot of compliments on her name.
I'm just wondering if anyone thinks and Emersyn "Emmy" Olivia sounds "weird" or if she would fit in just like any other child. I don't know why this is bothering me, I guess it's just because I am close with this family member and I value her opinion. I just don't want it to bother me so much that I end up changing my mind! My husband and I are pretty much set on this name! Please help! Thank you!

Even if you value their opinion it doesn't mean you have to change your mind, also you would have to change your husbands mind too. Personally, the name just makes me think about appliances. I do like the shortened version.

I think nowadays the big problem with naming children is the parents want something unique. No one wants to be the 6th Jennifer in their 5th grade class...that being said, parents are naming their children horrific, non-name names. Things like Heaven spelled backward and Serenity. Ick!!! I do like the name Emersyn for a girl, but if your intention is to call her Emmy, why not just name her Emmy?? I have a friend that is going to have a baby girl and want to name her Roxanne so that they can call her Roxy. I told her to just name her Roxy instead of that dreadful name, Roxanne. Ultimately, it's up to you obviously, but I would encourage you to think ahead to your daughter being in school and being an adult with either of those names. Good luck and congrats!!!!

It's a cute name. I've never been a big fan of Emerson for a girl, but your spelling does make it cute for a girl and I love Olivia as a middle name. I don't think it sounds weird at all, I think she'll fit in just fine. And Emmy is just adorable.
I wouldn't listen to your family. I know how hard it is to find a name you both love, and you did so stick with it!

I think Emerson (or Emersyn) sounds too masculine and doesn't flow right with Olivia, but hey, if that's what you and your husband want to name your daughter, go for it. Another way to spell Emmy is Emme which I think looks nicer.

Emersyn for a girl is unusual but, its a matter of personal preference. I think the name Emersyn Olivia is cute, and she will most likely prefer to be call by her nickname "Emmy" which I think is absolutely adorable.
Congrats on your new daughter!!

As long as you and your husband like it, that's all that should matter....I think it's very cute spelled the way you want to spell it....I think Emerson, looks VERY masculine....I also like Emery for a girl NOT a boy....You will never have EVERYONE like the name(s) you choose, unfortunately....I really like the name Emersyn Olivia....Very pretty....

I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Especially love Emme. ADORABLE...may even add it to my list of potential names.
Except I would do Emersyn Jo/Joelle because Jo was my grandmas middle name.
Sounds great with Olivia though. Good job!

First, I think it's a beautiful name! Very unique and different. If you and your husband like it that's all that matters! I understand the value of a trusted friend/family members opinion, but this is your daughter, not hers. You should do what makes YOU comfortable, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that name...it's very cute...and I LOVE "emmy"....way to go!!!! :)

Personally, I don't care for Emersyn. I don't really think it's a weird name for a boy, but I don't like it at all for a girl. However, if you are set on this name and you like it, don't worry about what others think.

I think it is beautiful.
We are naming our daughter something that our family seems to consider "weird" as well. However, we absolutely love her name!
Stick with it! Emersyn "Emmy" Olivia is a beautiful name!
