what is an elite to you and why is it bad to be one?

An elitist is not only someone who is wealthy, educated, or especially talented, but and believes that those in the lower classes matter less than they do and that their opinions are the best and should carry more weight.

Being elite is not always bad.. however, in the context of politics these days, specifically American politics, it refers to a group of well-connected, rich, out of touch politicians.

You can be part of an elite group of subject x if you are very well in that subject be it politics or something else.

Money, Power, Fame/Infamy.

Silvio Berlusconi (sp?) is an example of someone who is elite, has all three of those things and uses them in a negative way.

Andrew Carnegie is an example of someone who had those things and used them in a positive way.

A lot of elite republicans use their potential for evil, the dark side, Lord Sauron.

Fox News tries to take the negative the republicans give the word elite and paint democrats with it.

They are people who look down their noses at the common people. They think they are so much smarter than the rest of us that they should control our lives and our paychecks. They feel they are so special the rest of us should kiss their butts. Most are Ivy League snobs. And losers.

Some well known elites: Kennedy, Kerry, Gore, Obama, Edwards, Bush, Bush Sr, Clinton (Hillary not Bill).

The elite are people that have lived the American dream or they are the kids of people that have lived the American dream. The American dream is supposed to be something you reach for, but once you get there, you're one of the bad ones. The American dream now is to live on disability and welfare and have the government take care of you.

An elitist is someone who believes they know what is best for people they don't even know. Being rich does not make one an elitist, telling others through legislation and regulation is what makes one elitist. They think they are smarter than everyone else, know what is best for them and that they should decide how other will live their life.

Elite is someone who looks down on others who don't share their outward values. Join the group, do as everyone else, fall in line and look down on anyone who doesn't come within your standards.

No room for diversity.

It's a pack mentality, everyone in lock step with everyone else and those who aren't in step - are out and ridiculed.

There are a lot of people with money. An Elitist s one who looks down their noses at the rest of us and are, in a way, big snobs.

Elite isn't bad, just means you have money and power. An Elitist however is bad, they have money and power and look down on other people.

An elitist is a person that thinks they know better than you what is best for you, but does not live by those same rules.

Al Gore is a perfect example.
