Can you widely circulate your manga without having to live in Japan?
Okay I'm a writer and I've long wanted to create my own manga or at the very least write a novel that is similar to one (I'll go as far as to have an anime artist illustrate it). The problem is I notice a lot of the most popular titles are usually from magazines such as Shonen Jump or Shonen Magazine. Is there a way one can widely circulate a manga without having to go to Japan and publish it in a magazine there? I mean I like Japan and everything but I'm not really sure it's a place I wanna live in (lotta foreign policy issues there y'know).

Realistically, it would be extremely hard to widely circulate a manga originated outside Japan. Even great, talented mangakas in other Asian countries can only gain so much acknowledgement from a limited amount of people. Even in Japan there are thousands of people who are competing to get into this business, so it would be much harder for a foreigner. Even so, don't give up on what you love. If you love writing, go for it. Think things through carefully, sometimes decisions like wanting to be a mangaka are on mere impulse when you're exposed to a lot of the stuff. You can do similar things with novels or screen writing. If you're still set on creating a manga, I support you 100%, but just do it as a hobby. If you really like it you shouldn't care that it's widely circulated. Just be happy with your work and all the people it can reach. Good luck!
