Squirrel with purplish colored spots on meat ~ size a bit smaller than a dime) ?
Just got off the phone with a buddy in Indiana and he was sayin' that he went out huntin' Red Squirrel ta'day and the 4 he got had this spot problem. Also mentioned that the area of fur over these spots looked sorta' ragged. Anyone ever encounter this before? Pre-thanks in order ;)...< ' ( (( > <
Ahhh' yup', skinnin' them is the usual procedure taken before consumption, however it was aborted after he found the spots........

Sounds like bots, what Jennifer is calling wolves
They probably have a few other names in other regions also
This is the reason for the old saying that you never hunt squirrels in a month without an R in it
They are not supposed to affect the meat, you go ahead and tell me about it
Mange would not affect the meat just the skin

Yes, its were wolves were. Its a perisite that gets under there skin. It feeds off them in the warm months. Usually after the second frost they die. I would not recommend eating a squirl that has had these.
