Has anyone cured their fear of flying?

Some years back after a very bumpy intercontinental flight where the plane kept falling and then climbing again, I suddenly became scared of flying. Since then I've only flown once and it was white knuckles and closed eyes.

I used to fly at least twice a month and have been in small private planes and everything with no problems.

I had hypnotherapy which simply didn't work (except for the therapist who made a lot of money). All "fear of flying" courses seem to be aimed at people who were always scared of flying so it doesn't help. I used to love the bumps and screaming jet engines.

I have no problems in cars, in fact I'm currently in Germany where on many motorways there are no speed limits and I regularly drive over 100mph. In fact, the faster the better.

Has anyone had similar experiences and/or found a cure?

I spent many years gripping on to the person in the next seat and crying throughout the flight!! I tried potions, pills and large amounts of alchohol.. I eventually decided that I needed to get a proper solution and listened to a CD by Paul McKenna. What a transformation. I can now fly without any problems and even enjoy all the curious noises that you hear whilst in flight, and can watch the wings extend and retract. It has totally changed my life and I now look forward to any flight. Good luck, I understand how difficult it can be for you..

I use to be anxious on take-off as I would think about how the plane has not released from the runway with enough thrust therefore it could not make its way to the right altitude and we would fall, but that was just a momentary thought that got me nervous but if I was distracted at take-off or not looking out the window it was fine.

However I am now doing a study about how successful airlines are in helping passengers with fear of flying. Please fill out the short survey below.

Would you be thinking about the flying if the person of your dreams offered you a ticket to a tropical destination?
