Yes. Atenolol is in the class of drugs called beta blockers. These drugs will slow the pulse, decrease heart rate, and help the heart pump more efficiently. They are often prescribed to slow a rapid heartrate. Talk to your doctor about when to hold the medication. Most doctors recommend skipping the dose if the heartrate is below 55 or 60, but this must be tailored to your individual needs. Check out webMD.
