What does Bristol Palin's pregnancy say about her parents?

Sarah Palin claims to be a family values candidate, raising a familiy according to Christian values as well as supporting President Bush's stance again contraception and in support of abstainance as the proper method of birth control among teens.

What example does 17 year old Bristol Palin's pregnancy say about the effectiveness of these beliefs of fhe ability of her parents to instill these values in her? What kind of example by a vice-presidential candiate does this set for other parents raising teenage girls?

In the opinion of an almost-fifteen-year-old, it shows that if her own kids can't follow her, how is a whole country going to? Not one fellow teenager I know personally is pregnant or has gotten someone pregnant, and that has to do with GOOD parenting skills.

I would never, EVER think about getting pregnant until I'm married. My parents taught me properly to abstain. Some people might say, "So, it's not surprising she's pregnant, everyone is!" HELLO, PEOPLE!!!! This isn't right!

If the Palin family is a supposedly Christian family, then they should uphold Christian morals and standards. ALL of them. Even if it means reigning in your hormones. Heck, if everyone I know can do it (and I happen to know ALOT of people), then why can't she?

Not to be rude. This is my opinion and you're entitled to yours. Just make it smart. :-P ;-)

I guess we can ask this question to all parents of pregnant teens.....white, black, hispanic, etc. This happens in all races, and some more than others.

Personally I feel that the parents failed their child, but in the end it was this teen who made the decision to do as she did, and ultimately get pregnant, and embarrass her family. I am sure that there was a great deal of disappointment within the family,as it would be with most families. The fact that Gov. Palin believes the way she does, does not mean that she has to change what she believes just because her daughter got pregnant. I think it is a shame that this young girl did this, but at least she did not abort the child, and is owning up to her responsibility by keeping the child.

it comes down to being human. People make mistakes or bad decisions. Im sure Palin is not the first person to stand for family values w/ a child who got knocked up. Why would that, or her husband getting a DUI 25 years ago, effect what she's doing now? Abstinence is not realistic as the urge to mate is a carnal trait, so being against contraception is just asking for a high teenage birthrate.

    From your own link:

"We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us,' the Palins' statement said. 'Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support,' the Palins said."

Sounds like pretty strong family values to me. Thanks for pointing that out.

And as for what kind of example does this set, do you really want to go there? Then what about Obama's admitted past drug dealing? What about Clinton's hummers in the Oval Office? What about Ted Kennedy sobering up while he left a woman to die? What about John Edwards? The list goes on and on.

And, not that you'd ever let the truth get in your way, but Palin has been vocal about being pro-life AND pro-contraception.

Her pregnancy says nothing about her parents. My kids also did things they were taught were wrong. Parents teach, but children don't always follow those teaching all the time.

My only question about this whole thing is "What were McCain and Palin thinking when they agreed to subject Palin's family to the scrutiny of a national presidential campaign during which this was bound to be revealed?" I just hope the daughter is able to handle all this scrutiny.

It says that her parents love her unconditionally. It was Bristol's choice to have sex before marriage. Her parents couldn't be with her every second of the day. As a parent we can give our children direction & be an example. When it comes down to it the children are going to make choices. Sometimes they make choices we don't agree with and or we know there are going to be consequences.

I think it's a great example. While, like many teenagers, she made an obvious error in judgement, she is choosing to accept the consequences of her actions and accept her responsibility.

She will give birth to that child instead of just killing it. I think her parents must have raised a very brave and responsible daughter to accept the consequences of her mistake.

She is an average american in that her kid is pregnant and she seems to be living in make-believe land thinking that he daughter is getting married to the father at the age of 17! As a teen mother myself I think this woman is out of her mind to think that this is the best thing for her child. Funny thing is... this kind of thing is happening all over the country and bad things have come out of it. So what of Palin's methods to teach and raise children in this country? I won't be voting for a mother that can't seem to take care of her own kids let alone how the schools teach mine.

That any daughters can't keep they're legs together says very little about their parents, at least not in this day and age! Today it means almost nothing...

It says her parents love her and are willing to stick with her through the tough times. And as far the example being set, apply that to all elected officials and see where it stands.
