Why do so many people spread hateful lies about the United States?

It's one thing when foreingers who live outside the US do it, but when Americans themselves do it, you have to wonder if the human race hasn't completely lost it. Look at Hollywood, comprised of millionaires who can say and do anything they want, yet it spreads more ugly lies about the United States than anywhere. What's the reason for this. Is it salving some pyschological need? Is anti-Americanism, which is purely prejudice, a product of mass hysteria, misinformation and vapic hatred for goodness and well-being? Again, this question will get a whole spew of rants about how horrible the United States is, but most are gross exaggerations, if not flat out lies. For example, why does it make people feel good to say that non one in the United States gets health care? There are some, a small percentage, who do not have health insurance, but that does not mean they do not get health care. One is as likely to not get health care in the United States for not having insurance as one is likely not to get health care in Canada for forgetting to bring his national I.D. card. The U.S. health care system is the best in the world---it is state of the art, and treats more people from overseas than any other system. Again, what good does it do for people to spread lies to the contrary? Why the beef against the United States, when contries such as France and Britain which claim to be egalitarian socialist societies, have more poverty and there is less chance for upward mobility and their health care systems grossly lag behind the United States in treating cancer and other deadly diseases.

Update:

Otto, not sure what you're trying to say, but if you mean that foreign news is more reliable, that's another lie. U.S. news may be lagging in international coverage (if it didn't, most Americans would be less likely to view the world as so rosey, in fact), but Americans get more viewpoints on issues than anywhere I've found.

Update 2:

Danko, US government cannot get a bottle of water to New Orleans? Again, another lie, a blatant lie at that. Millions of bottles of water have been sent to New Orleans in the aftemath of Katrina. Besides, your statement is rather ironic. You say the US government is overbloated, yet you want it to do more? Since when did Americans become so dependent on the government? Do you need it so badly?

Update 3:

John_d, Americans are the most uneducated people in the world? Wow! Talk about your gross exaggerations. Actually, more Americans receive college degrees than any nation on earth after Japan. In fact, 33% of Americans have college degrees compared with only 18% of Europeans.

Update 4:

Timmy, if you really need to believe Cuba has less poverty than the United States, then go for it, if it appeases some inner conflict in your mind. Poor people in American make most the middle class throughout the world look impoverished. A swedish study shows that if Sweden were a state, it would be the 51st poorest state in the nation. Black Americans also have more purchasing power than the average middle classe swede, according to the study. And when you're in Cuba, where is the government allowing you to go outside your tourist centers? It's easy to judge as a tourist behind an air conditioned bus.

Update 5:

Someguy--Bush wasn't around 60 years ago, at least not in a position of power. People who say anti-Americanism started with Bush are grossly ignorant of history.

Update 6:

Just_plain_jim, and you left the big bad evil United States, and I'm guessing, for europe, with nothing in your pocket but a loaf of bread and some loose change? Something tells me you are one of those who have the luxury of living anywhere you want. Gee, I wonder where you got that! You might want to start by thanking the United States. BTW, whatever country you're in, if you had an emotional invenstment in it, you would see that government corruption is perhaps worse if not the same.

Have you ever actually been outside the USA. Some of the content of your question indictaes that you know precious little about the outside world and actually are repeating the crap that you get spoon fed by your government.

I've been to the USA many times, and I am telling you straight that poverty in many parts of the USA makes life in Cuba look positively luxurious. The UK & France do indeed have poverty, but nothing even approaching the scale of the USA.

EDIT; You didn't answer me which means you haven't been outside of the USA and actually don't know what you're talking about. I used to live in Sweden, in Solna, Stockholm, and the standard of living is so much higher than the USA it's just not real. I don't know where you read that study but it is pure bollocks. And I've spent months travelling round Cuba, living with Cuban families and hitching rides, so I know more about the place than you ever will. There are no homeless people in Cuba, and I mean NONE. Not many people are wealthy, but nobody starves either. And nobody dies from a lack of medical treatment.

Try venturing outside the borders of the USA before you ask questions such as this, little boy

The answer happens to also be the root of all evil in this world: Liberal news media. I have nothing against liberalism, however I do have a problem with their news that portrays their own country to be such a bad place. Although it's hard to tell, foreign countries really don't have a problem with America (most of them anyways). It's funny how only the foreigners you hear on the computer are so full of hate. The ones directly exposed to liberal media, even on websites such as YouTube. What I do, and is important for everybody to do, is to realize that it's an illusion. You and I can make our own decisions without ABC pounding things into our head. This is a pretty sad time for America, due to the blindness of so many people. People are protesting things they don't even know about, and it's just plain sad.

There are people who live in fear and encourage others to live in fear by using fear motivations.

In reality the millions without health care are not poverty level, they are people making between 100K and 200K who choose not to have health insurance.

Most things like this are total bollocks.

There is another problem though and that is that people in the US tend to deny they made mistakes while attacking other nations for making similar mistakes.

For example, after WW2 the United States put pressure on Germany to outlaw the NAZI party while the Democratic party has been allowed to flourish in the US.

US internal politics has us ignoring things like the fact that we honor a man who made his living from 1804 to 1813 as a slave trader by placing his picture on the $20.

We pretend that no genocide of Africans or Native Americans occurred in the United States and we ignore that the political party responsible for these genocides is still popular.

Between the totally false, self serving propaganda and self delusion, the United States has the most uneducated population in the world.

PS Links added to prove the poverty statistics for the UK and US. The French stats are in French so I am not posting them, anyone who can read French can find them pretty easily.

More links to attack the bollocks being posted. For example, the US is 47 out of 208 in life expectancy and the spread between #1 and #47 is less than 5 years.

The poverty stats for France are skewed and you would have to read the documentation in French to understand. For example the unemployment rate in France is over 8% and the poverty level is 6% so you would believe that being on Unemployment in France pays enough to keep you out of poverty. Not if you look at the numbers.

Salam It is true that the Ummah should be like that and behave the way you describe. The reason , in my opinion for current division is the fragmentation of the State and Nation. Borders were drawn by enemies and later they became sacred and those inside such borders fought neighboring "states" because of one square mile of their territory. Each fragment had to have a "head of state". Many were selected by the same enemy who drew the borders. These chiefs started defending their positions and regimes furiously and created divisions within their fragments to stay in power. They also aligned with the enemy that created the posts for them and keep defending them, however bad and corrupt they may be. If you say start with the individual it would be accurate. However, individuals wont be able to change entrenched regimes, so people say let's have parties, organizations to be stronger. If enemy finds out that such groups are strong enough and enlighted enough to have the goal of the Umma realized they prevent them from succeeding in elections by all unstraight means. If the groups resist this they are labeled as terrorists. In that case both internations and national powers fight them, create divisions within them and so on. Final word: One still has to start with individuals and plan very carefully to avoid plots.

Consider that the administration willfully withheld information from our congress that would have not proven their case to go to war. Which resulted in thousands of deaths and destroyed lives.

Then sat on their hands till the people screamed so loud about Katrina. I just shake my head in shame that there are people 3 years later who are still waiting for promises that have never come. While China, made a promise to their people, after devastating floods a few years ago, that all the thousands of homes that were destroyed would be rebuild within one year, they met that goal ahead of time. These are not trailers or cardboard shacks, but rather brick and mortar family homes built for a lifetime. They announced a few days ago that they would rebuild the quake devastated areas to pre quake or better levels within 3 years. How does it feel to be completely shamed by a third world country?

Then gave the rich a big tax cut and a very small one to the middle class, then reduced funding to the states so they had to raise taxes and fees to make up for it, and the feds raised fees and hidden and not so hidden taxes costing the middle class more. That the big tax lie that Bush and the GOP did to you my friend.

Then we have people who want our government, on your side of the fence, to tell us what to do with our bodies and what our children should think in our science classes by introducing religion in our schools. How are you going to feel when Johnny comes home and puts his prayer rug down pointing east? That will happen my friend, because every religion will demand equal access and by our constitution, they will get it. That includes druids and devil worshipers.

    That is just a start.

Do you understand why people are so pissed off and why I was one of the ones who finally got so fed up that I got the hell out?

You really do need to understand how our government is no longer for the people, but rather big bucks and big business. We are nowhere near what Thomas Jefferson envisioned.

    Peace

    Jim

    EDIT

I left the USA with every dime I had, which wasn't much, with no debt to anyone because I learned to live within my means a decade ago. I now live in China as a college English teacher and I have something that most people don't have, financial freedom and no taxes. That my friend is worth more then you can imagine. You see, I make just below the level where income taxes come into play in China, which is more then a middle class wage.

Moral of the story, don't ever assume what you don't know.

Finally, what most people know of China would fit in a thimble, what most people think they know would fit in a barrel.

Nobody argues that those who get health care in the US get good care.

The issue is the uninsured who slip through the system.

The result is the US having the highest child mortality, the lowest life expectancy and second lowest healthy life expectancy in the developed world.

    http://www.who.int/countries/en/

As for the claim that France and Britain have more poverty.

Percentage of population living below the poverty line

    USA 12%

    UK 14%

    France 6.2%

So not altogether correct there either.

Ignoring the real problems this country faces is not patriotic.

Acknowledging them and wanting to fix them is neither lying nor anti-American

  • 1 decade ago

You make claims about health care that that you do not back up. I do not like socialism but it works in many countries. That being said you cannot be happy with our system now .|You say a small percentage do not have insurance and think that is okay. Yes they will get care but often too late and at much greater cost if they had preventative care. We are the great nation but what is so wrong with being better?

  • 1 decade ago

If you have not taken a look around, but the American Government has gotten to big for itself. Taking on the problems of the world, but not taking care of the problems at home. How about sending millions of dollars in aid to Georgia, but can not get a bottle of water to people in New Orleans till days after Hurricane Katrina. The United States needs to start focusing on its own people and stop trying to fix the rest of the world.

I think every since WW II it started being fashionable to be unpatriotic

Korea and then Viet Nam showed the US in a bad light and every

thing after that went down hill. There still is a lot of patriots but

all to often the younger generation takes their freedom for granted

and think they all are ill used

The US is still the best but I don't know how long it can stay number

one<><><>but not everyone is disloyal but too many are ..as this

format shows a lot of dumb people with too much time on their hands

The USA has some faults, but I there's no doubt it's the greatest and most generous nation in the history of the world. This is why I'm proud to be an American.
