How can I study the Bible better?

I hit the bible like a bug hits a bug zapper 45 years ago, I really did want to know how to study the bible from Genesis to Revelations and that is the way I did it, I was very interested in the time the bible is giving and intended to figure out what it meant.

Matt.1:1-17; and Heb.11:1-40; with all these people there time and place is given.

Never question it, and read the original version - with an understanding of the language it was originally written in. This is because english words will carry many different meanings to the original ones. Actually, most Christians barely even understand the word "sin" - it actually originally means "to miss" - like in archery you miss the target. This simple fact totally changes the beleif system of many Christians because no longer will "carrying sin" mean that there is something wrong with them on the inside - it just means that they "miss the point" when it comes to the way they look at life.

Actually if most Christians in the US were to talk to the actual Jesus from 2000 years ago, his facial features, skin colour, and accent, and strange language (he never spoke english) will actually resemble a middle eastern person, perhaps a "terrorist".

Further still, most Christians in the US would not even know where to locate Jerusalem on a map, and they would probably be shocked if you told them that it was in the "Middle-East" - which they also probably would not know where to find.

By going within, connecting with your higher self which can enable you to read between the lines and therefore past the outer rigid doctrines of Christianity to find the real meaning of the texts you are reading in the Bible.

Remember, Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within you. He didn't say you could find it in any source outside of yourself including the Bible.

The Bible is one tool to help you find the inner kingdom. If it doesn't help you find that then I personally would move on to something that does.

The better part of wisdom is to seek the Living Word within, not the dead word from without.

I was gonna say ==learn a study method- like the grammatical, historical, literal method.

That is the only method that yields consistent understanding. It takes a little work- but well worth the time.

well not many people are good at sitting down and reading small words. there are many other ways of studying, perhaps sitting down and watching a video/dvd, or audio would help. thats what i'm doing next
