Fantasy Replacement For Tom Brady?

I had Tom Brady, now I need someone else, I have Phillip Rivers, who will likely be my Starting week 2. However, I need a replacement for the void Brady created.

There are a few options available:

Matt Cassel

CHad Pennington

Matt Ryan

Who should I choose? Will Cassel be able to step up? Even with their loss, will Miami have a good enough season to justify Pennington? Is Ryan worth taking?

If you already have Rivers (who is in for a monster season), grab Cassel. Pennington and Ryan will be available for some time, and will struggle to put up big numbers from week to week. If Pennington wasn't good enough to be on most fantasy rosters while in NY, what makes Miami so much better??? He'll be available later if you need him. Ryan is destined to be a great QB in this league, but you don't get to play the Lions every week :) His numbers were "OK", but he's going to struggle to put up big games in what will likely be a run-heavy offensive scheme.

Sure, Cassel is unproven, but why not roll the dice? So was Brady before Bledsoe's injury, so he could surprise everyone. At the very least, he has the weapons around him to get the job done. And, if it doesn't work out, you can always go pick up Pennington, Ryan, or any other number of QBs later and just play the weekly matchup. Bottom line, Rivers is enough to keep you going for now, and could be a top 5 QB this year anyway.

I would pick up Cassel. Pennington does not have any weapons to throw to or an offensive line to protect him. Ryan is inexperienced and does not really have many good players to help him, and does not have any weapons to throw to. Cassel, meanwhile, has Moss and Welker, among others, to throw to, and a dominant offensive line (although they have not yet been as good as they were before the Super Bowl). Although Cassel had little playing time in college, neither did Brady. Additionally, he did not do too badly against KC.

i have Phillip rivers to in the same situation as you i ended up going with chad Pennington he put up some good numbers last week with the dolphins i would hold off on Cassel and see how he plays plus he might not hold on to the starting job and dont forget matt ryan was playing against detroit who has terrible defense

I'd pick up Matt Cassel. Why? Two words: Randy Moss. Plus, Wes Welker isn't bad either. If it doesn't work out, pick up Pennington. Matt Ryan played in only 1 game; he's still unproven. In my opinion, Matt Cassel is the #1 waiver pick up right now.

i would pick up matt ryan. he has better weapons than pennington, and ryan plays in a weak division. even though he's only a rookie, his first pass as an NFL starter went for 62 yards and a TD. pennington is not bad but he doesn't have potential like ryan.

  • pennington beacause ryan is a rookie and you never know what cassel will do i rather start pennington the rivers

i would take pennington or ryan. wait and see how cassel does first.
