Poll shows big shift to McCain among white women?

this article relates it to Palin being picked as his vp.

http://www.reuters.com/article/wtMostRead/idUSN097...

i have heard some women who feel mccain did this just to get their vote and they aren't buying it, but the poll change would seem to indicate some women are.

what do you think?

My wife and I supported Hillary Clinton. I decided early on the switch to McCain, but my wife was not sure. It upset her that Obama passed over Hillary as his running mate, and when McCain had the "audacity" to name a woman she began to see that McCain is really a moderate who understands working Americans far more and she has now decided to vote for him in November. That's two votes for McCain from people who have voted Democratic for years (I did vote for Reagan in 1984).

Last week it was the men that was more responsible for the shift. So, what's going on? Did the men change their mind, and the women decided to go with Palin long after the post RNC bounce?

it's a good bet that most of the women who have swtiched their votes because of Palin preferred the conservative platform to begin with. Otherwise, that would be sexist of them to choose McCain simply because he has a female VP, wouldn't it?

I am sure that the women's vote was at least part of the reason McCain picked Sarah. I think the shift is because we finally have a woman who has lived our lives and knows the problems we face. Obama/ Biden do not know or care what white middle-class women feel or what our problems are.

Absolutely. I have a Jewish friend who deosnt even care that she says things like, "Jesus for Jews", and her mother [my Jewish friends mother] married a Black man, after she was born (her moms second marriage) And she is STILL voting for McCain because of Palin and her wanting a woman in the White House... I cant beleive it as she is pro-choice and everything...

    Scary

  • I think that when he picked her, that was obvious. You don't spend your entire campaign running on experience and totally change it up for no good reason. It was a calculated risk that is paying off. At least for now. The more this jesus-freak is outed, the more people will start to flee.

Rab: Yes, it is quite ok for women to vote for women because they are women, but don't dare support someone because of their race!

Women are some of the biggest sexists out there.

i don't put a lot of weight in polls. it is expected that coming out with a woman as VP candidate would cause a bump. i don't think it makes much of a difference overall - republicans are die hards and will go along with whoever is their guy. (and i do mean "guy", as in a woman at the top of the ticket wouldn't fly) this is the woman who when hearing that hillary clinton lost out to obama said "sambo beat the b*****" I mean, it speaks for itself who we're dealing with.

women who are democrats and independents are far from likely to endorse mc cain simply because he chose palin. how dumb does mc cain think women are? it isn't that easy to nail down half the population. people didn't back hillary because she is a woman but more because of who she is.

It's only obvious that this was going to happen.

    The GOP knows it.

It's a fact. Especially since the GOP, not just too long ago, were examining Obamas experience. They're falling for it.

This election is a rat race. it's not politics that's the main concern, it's psychology.

Not surprising. More women see themselves, their lives and their aspirations in Sarah Palin than they ever did in Gloria Steinem.

Palin was chosen to firm up the base of the Republican party. Because of her accomplishments in reforming congress in her state more people consider the McCain/Palin ticket the obvious choice.

When given the choice; people will choose a track record of accomplishments over promises of change.

Source(s): It is what it is. Vote for experience, reform and bipartisanship McCain/Palin '08 IMO
