Over use of leg cocking?
I have a 9mth old cavalier, and a 5 month old one. Both males. The eldest one has recently started cocking his leg (all grown up---lol). However when we go for walks he stops at every corner and lamp post to lift his leg - it just seems excessive. Any reasons for this? It is not a UTI. He als keeps trying to dominate the little one - by trying to hump him. We have had the little one for 3 mths now.
Planning on the eldest getting neutered in next couple of months

The excessive urinating/leg lifting is territory marking. You can discourage this behavior by not allowing your dog to stop at every possible marking spot.
I keep a good pace and if my dog can take care of business before he gets to the end of his lead then he's allowed -and he understands this.
The humping thing is dominance and rightly so. He is the oldest, he was there first too. The younger dog generally isn't going to do anything. This isn't such a bad thing though. I see it as a sign of no problems in the future.
Not all same sex dogs in a household get along well.
Humans sometimes need to step back because it's clearly obvious that dogs have fewer issues than humans.
Have some respect for pack order.

The older male is being normal, he is marking his territory or covering another dogs smell with his own. It is instinct that causes them to do this. May not even actually pee on what he is lifting his leg at, but it is a territorial thing. As far as the little one, he is demonstrating dominance over him. When the time is right the little one will defend himself.

Is your 9mth old fixed? If not, and if you are not planning on breeding him, I suggest you do it quickly. This will help.
Most dogs lift their legs on walks, even if nothing comes out, it's just them trying to mark over everything as theirs.
As for the humping, it's just him dominating.... our female poodle does it to our female maltese. It's just a personality trait. As long as he's not trying to hump a female, I wouldn't really worry about it.

It sounds like he's trying to be alpha male no1,just peeing and marking everything, like this whole neighborhood is mine!!(that's what the humping is about too,he'll probably try it with you too, just make sure and firmly let him know who's boss).
Don't worry about it,mine is 8 and still has to pee on everything, even when he's no pee left he still lifts his leg and tries to squeeze a drop out.A bit of a pest when you've got to stop every two minutes, but hey it's their walk!!

Dogs do **** their legs at any given opportunity. They are leaving the scent behind. I don't let my dogs stop unless I say so otherwise you get nowhere fast. I let my dogs **** their legs when we first set off and if we are going for a lead walk they do not stop again until I say so. I let them stop once and that's it. There's no need for them to do it - particularly if you are going somewhere they are off the lead.

when he lifts his leg and uses the bathroom, he is marking his territory. and as far as the dominating the little dog goes, it's just it way of trying to be the alpha male.

when dogs go for a walk it just like us reading the morning papers they need to know whats going on in their neighbourhood so they leave messages for other dogs

it's just an attempt to mark the territory. Wether he actually pees or not is of no matter to him...lol Oddly enough...
