Can liberals explain how Obama's Global Poverty Act is going to reduce taxes and make our economy flourish? ?

Obama is backing and promoting the Global Poverty Act, which will essentially result in a cost to the US taxpayers of about 0.7% of our entire Gross Domestic product (GDP) as a MANDATORY "official development assistance" global tax. This equates to stunting economic growth.

I mean, come on, why can't libs see through this guy?

Update:

Keep in mind, this has nothing to do with helping the American Middle Class. It is taking FROM Americans and redistributing US wealth gloablly by sending a check to the rest of the world. It is NOT a domestic program!

Update 2:

For anyone thinking that 0.7% of our GDP insignificant (you know who you are), it equates to a reduction in ECONOMIC GROWTH of 22.5%.

We can explain it because it's the right thing to do. The bill itself quotes Bush as declaring that “We fight against poverty because opportunity is a fundamental right to human dignity.”

Bush’s former top aide, Michael J. Gerson, writes in his new book, Heroic Conservatism, that Bush should be remembered as the President who “sponsored the largest percentage increases in foreign assistance since the Marshall Plan…”

So are you saying that Bush is also wrong to worry about Global Poverty? You can also look at helping with world issues like this as a good way to make friends in the world instead of more enemies.

It's an investment. 20 years ago there were few people in countries such as India who would be regarded as middle class by western standards. They had no spare cash to spend on western-style (and western-owned/manufactured) luxuries. Now that India's economy has boomed we suddenly have a huge new market. If we can do the same in Africa and other third world countries then our companies can potentially reach tens of millions more people.

That's not the purpose, but it can have an indirect affect as reducing global poverty reduces global instability which helps create less security risks for the US.

So, let me get this straight, you are concerned about seven-tenths of 1% of the US GDP? Given that the US economy is about $15 trillion annually I do not think that should cause us much concern.

It's going to make the cycle of (I am a dumb American on well fare) be the norm. To be honest it's basically an excuse not to better yourself.

They think that an increase in taxes will stimulate the economy.
