Is there still a Liberal Bias in the Media?
Based on this story, can it be said that American media is still 'liberal'?
Or, more to the point, what is worse for our society - 1) a 'liberal' media, or 2) political candidates who, for a myriad of reasons, avoid media scrutiny?
As usual, I openly solicit and welcome answers and input from all, no matter what your political affiliation.
"So far, Palin has barely spoken with voters either. Since the convention, she and McCain have breezed through a Wisconsin ice cream shop, a New Mexico restaurant and a Missouri barbecue place, shaking hands with diners but not taking any questions. Photographers and television cameras have been allowed full view while reporters are typically ushered too far away to ask questions or hear most of the conversations."

Having as an anser "Ask MSNBC" or "Ask Fox News" is not an answer, really.
And, please read the included snippet of article - Palin and her handlers refuse to answer questions. Do you think having an untouchable, untested person elected as Vice President is a good thing, or not?

Bias, probably. I imagine that most media members do have liberal leanings. However, the McCain camp got smart and decided that whenever the media questioned Palin about anything relevant to the election (darn those pesky issues), they would call it an attack or disrespectful instead of "good journalism" and then promptly cut off access.
No network wants to lose the big story, even if that "big story" is now a watered down fluff piece touting Palin's status as a hockey mom and her blue collar husband instead of discussing her foreign policy experience (or lack thereof). Seriously, is Charles Gibson really going to ask Palin about the bridge to nowhere, the $26 million in debt she accrued for Wasilla, her attempt at banning books or her ethics investigation?
What we see now is an American media afraid to do their jobs. What happened to the days of Woodward and Bernstein? Where are the reporters who are willing to risk jail time in order to maintain the secrecy of a source? It's a travesty that the once mighty, trustworthy, free media has now been turned into nothing but entertainment reporters and political puppets.

People in the media tend to be two things 1) Educated 2) Wealthy.
This leads to several outcomes. Often those in the media tend to be more liberal on social issues as, statistically, are those with higher degrees of education.
But it also leads to those in the media tending to be more fiscally conservative as, statistically, are most wealthy people.
I'm not saying that liberals are smarter, but those who deal with the world in abstract terms such as graduate students, will tend to have a more progressive and idealistic view of the world.
It is important to remember that although some outlets in the "liberal media" will often seem to show a favoritism for issues like gay marriage and affirmative action, they are the same ones who cheered on the Bush administration during the Iraq War.

{Touting the benefits of the free market, President Ronald Reagan began the process of deregulating the mainstream media. Instead of offering the American public more choices, it has offered less. }

{Under FCC Chairman Mark S. Fowler, a communications attorney who had served on Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign staff in 1976 and 1980, the commission began to repeal parts of the Fairness Doctrine, announcing in 1985 that the doctrine hurt the public interest and violated the First Amendment.}

It seem that the "liberal bias" in the media is a result of Republicans wanting Rush to be able to rant without having to be "fair and balanced".
Now that it has come back to bite them in the azz...they cry like babies.
Why don't I feel sympathy?

Only a fool shows his hand in a poker game. The stakes are very high and im sure McCain/Palin will be putting all their chips on the table very soon just as soon as the left is done making all their petty little side bets and attacks.

The McCain campaign began whining about liberal bias so they would have an excuse to keep Palin away from the press until after she finished her lessons on foreign policy.

the "liberal media" is a canard of the right. the corporate media is only interested in one thing: profits.
"As Viacom CEO Sumner Redstone confessed in 2004:
Senator Kerry is a good man. I've known him for many years. But it happens that I vote for Viacom. Viacom is my life, and I do believe that a Republican Administration is better for media companies than a Democratic one."

TimeWarner and its subsidiary, CNN, is biased that way. They are, essentially, a Zionist broadcaster. They blend it all in with some hard news to conduct their proganda.
Source(s): just do some searches on the web about media ownership including the history. it has been an issue on the web for a long time now. could not be clearer. bias, propaganda machine. a journalistic joke. - Anonymous1 decade ago
No there is not and has never been a liberal media. Cons use the term "liberal media" to scare the media into being nicer to them. Also, they refer to good journalism as liberal whenever it doesn't fit their viewpoint.
