Shocked I say! Shocked!?

Ok not really.

Question is, how come there are so many young people in this section?

I would think our youngest person would be 16 and would go on from there.

But we're getting 13 year olds (actual number from someone who said so) and perhaps younger.

Don't you think that's a little young to be discussing religion in such a serious manner? I mean these kids are barely in control of their lives, not the say that they're even in a position to discuss such an important topic.

I mean sure, I bet there are teens who can argue the point. But I'm not seeing anyone near that intellectual level at that age in Yahoo Answers.

Update:

If you are around 13

My apologies for thinking this, but my point still stands.

Update 2:

I'm not saying that I think you shouldn't be allowed into YA! until an older age. Just to make it clear.

Update 3:

Just saying a 13 year old's ability to put a rational argument is more restricted generally than say a 16 year old's

I don't say this very often on here, because it tends to take away some of my well earned (I think so, at least) credibility.

    I am 15, I turn 16 in 6 months.

I think that there are some kids on here who are a bit immature for it, but most who actually stay for an extended time tend to grow up enough to discuss things in a serious matter.

I mean, hey, seven months ago, when I started posting in R&S, I know I was not very good at it, I gave bad answers, and I didn't know what I was talking about half the time, but I learned quickly.

R&S has been perhaps one of the more enlightening things I have seen on the internet in that regard, to be honest.

I think you are correct. My concern is about their inexperience. It is at around that age when a teen begins to realize that he knows the meanings of many of the words being used by others. But it is hard for me to keep in my mind that a person I am responding to might be that young. It's easy for me to think, when they ask a question that I know most people have had the answer to for a long time, it's easy for me to have the thought that they are intending to be facetious. Even if I respond politely I might be blunt, thinking that they really know, and they can feel inadequate. They're NOT, they're just inexperienced. I don't know how else they can be introduced to the most important line of reasoning in life.

Well, 13 is the minimum age to be here. Not that it's guaranteed there won't be anyone younger, but those are the rules. 13 year olds aren't breaking the rules - it may be obvious when someone is that young, but they are allowed to be here. If they want to discuss religion, no reason they shouldn't.

  • No not really. We all have to take a stand sometime and the love one feels for God transcends age. After all, Christ himself was just a boy when he was found in the temple asking and answering questions posed by the Jewish leaders in his day. (Luke 2:46-49, 52)

I just hope that the kiddies aren't running around arguing with people just for fun.

I never thought there was an age limit to express your opinion. This is a afterall the internet, and you'll sometimes be surprised some 13 year olds have more mature answers than delusional grownups.

I'm 29 and trying not to feel old with them around. lol

But I must admit, here and there you do see some very smart kids that are thinking things though pretty well on their own for themselves, no matter which direction they decide to go on beliefs.

Well it is a public forum, so everyone has the right to say what they want.

Their beliefs and values are malleable and can be subject to various changes, especially hanging around Y!A...

But, who am I to talk?

I'm pretty sure they have to be 13 to be on this site. Of course anybody can be anybody they want on the Internet.

Hey, without the teens, we wouldn't get our recommended daily allowance of Pascal's Wager questions.... I think.
