I don't remember these men handing their successors the keys to the White House along with a recession. However, I do remember Johnson, Carter, and Clinton handing over an economy that was in shambles.

Clinton's final year in office was one of the worst economic years in the previous ten years. And, during that year Clinton was nowhere to be found, because he was already out raising money for the democrats.
