Where do I find the engine number '71 Challenger?
I have a 1971 Dodge Challenger 440. I'm pretty sure the engine is not the original for the car and wondered where on the block (or which component) is the number to identify the engine. (not the engine number on the fender tag etc)

2 other things to look for - the car VIN number will be stamped on the right side of the engine on a rail - see picture

This can be faked so you also need to look for the actual build date of the engine to make sure it predates the build date of the car.

At the front driver side of the engine block is a flat machined surface you can see in front of the head. Scrub off the dirt and paint and the engine ID will be found there.

take the numbers off the side of the block and run those that should tell if its original the number should match those of part of the serial number i doubt that they will because very few cars now actually have the original engines in them,those things got blown up years ago but its worth a try ,here's a site you can use to match those up with it will help you determine if they are original to the car,good luck ,http://www.yearone.com/updatedsinglepages/Id_info/...
