Do you think we should make it harder to become president?

Here is all you need to run for president:

You have to be a natural-born US Citizen (a citizen from birth - but not necessarily born in the USA, which is a common misconception).

You have to be at least 35 years of age.

You have to have resided in the US for the last 14 years.

It just seems any schmo with a lot of money can run.

Wouldn't it be funny if you actually had to know 3 languages, spent a certain amount of time in school and whatever to be president.

Your thoughts and perhaps make up some new rules?

Update:

No need to get so defensive. This question is not directed at any candidate. Just a fun exercise in what your standards are!

No, placing limits on the candidate would lessen the number eligible and I want to see everybody eligible.

I don't WANT my president to have to speak anything but English. I don't WANT educational requirments because that limits the number of those eligible. Bush certainly would meet the toughest requiurments and look at what a piss poor president he turned out to be.

So, a solider who graduates high school, enlists in the Army, works his way up the ranks and becomes a great leader would not be qualified because he didn't go to college and only speaks English?

This would have also eliminated Harry Truman, Andrew Jackson, and a few others from being President.

Thus, it seems that the system as it is, while perhaps broken, isn't due to the qualifications.

Becoming President of the United States is one of the most challenging aspect in life. Imagine the logistics of traveling across the country; zig zagging and meeting with thousands of people; discussing matter to no end. Memorizing speeches, stance, and learning all aspects of those in each local area. Did I mention; having to be extremely careful about each word that comes from your mouth and your actions. Indeed its the longest interview any one person could endure.

No. If you started puttting too many qualifications on, political organizations would just start using it to keep good candidates from running. You probably aren't old enough to remember all of the qualifications some states used to put on qualifying to vote. The intent was to keep certain groups from voting and didn't improve the political processes. It just excluded people.

Well I don't think that we need to put in more restrictions. I do think that the politicians compensation needs to be cut drastically. They get way too many benefits for what they are doing. It does not seem logical to me to pay so much money to someone who is representing people who make so much less. They should get paid what the average person in their area is making. The President should be paid the average salary in America, and I doubt very much the avg. person makes $500,000 per year. Congressmen/women and Representatives should get the avg for the state and area they represent. So on for Governors and so on and so forth.

    LOL !!!!

An American president who can speak more then one language?

Might as well add scientific understanding, so they know what global warming is.

American Presidents are based on TV coverage and appearance.

It has little to do with merit.

Arnold Schwartzenager is gov of california?????!!!!

    Ronal Reagen???!!!!!

Look at your neighbor, just how much knowedge do you think he has.

You are right! I want to see just one, that's right ONE report, written down on paper on what you will do when and if in office. All three separation of powers will hold you to it and the American people will give you a grade afterwards.

Good luck, the timer starts NOW.
