What say ye, oh unbelievers?

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good."

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. "

Would you atheists explain something to me and help me understand your line of reasoning? Now either the above verses are true and God is calling you fools, or you are right and there is no god. So you are betting your souls and the chance for a life without end on what? The chance that you are right, in which case you die forever, but you won't know that you were right, and neither will us Christians, we'll all be just as dead as each you! If you're wrong about God, then you are fools, and be dead forever! So whether you are right or wrong, you're gonna be dead forever! I'm placing my bet on God. If I'm right, I'll live forever, and if I'm wrong, I won't be any worse off than you.

Update:

Very interesting. You must decide why the words above were written over 2000 years ago and they exactly describe you!

Update 2:

One more thing. Who is Pascal?

Update 3:

Captain Commando best answer so far "for I would that ye were cold or hot"

Update 4:

"Lean not unto thine own understanding"

I bet my soul that there is no God.

Since neither God nor souls exist the bet means nothing.

However, if God does exist then my soul belongs to that "God" fellow and I can't trade it anyhow.

That's probably the longest, most detailed explanation of Pascal's Wager I've ever heard that didn't come from Pascal himself. And you didn't even mention him once.

The basic rebuttal to Pascal's Wager is that it is crappy to live your life in fear and base your spiritual truth on the fact that God might just let you burn.

I believe in God (though not Christian) and hate this line of reasoning.

    Edit:

    From Wikipedia

Pascal's Wager (or Pascal's Gambit) is a suggestion posed by the French philosopher Blaise Pascal that even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, a person should "wager" as though God exists, because so living has potentially everything to gain, and certainly nothing to lose.

The reason for all the drinking is that "regulars" see this line of reasoning stated 100 different ways every day--it's become a standard part of the "R&S drinking game". Though usually people know when they're quoting Pascal (you see it if you stop by often enough).

    Not Pascal's bloody Wager again.

Firstly tell me, which would be the right god? You seem to think Christianity is the only religion. There is no reason to think any one religion is any more true than another, and if for some reason I were to be a theist, I certainly wouldn't be a Christian.

Secondly, you are proposing a religion that rewards believers and punishes unbelievers. Personally, I think a god would be more likely to reward people who think for themselves with logic and reason than ignorance and blind faith. How can you be sure it's not the opposite way round?

All of which is meaningless, because I can't force myself to believe in something that I know is illogical. If god exists, it's his fault I don't believe he exists, and thus I am going to hell with no 'free will' in the matter.

ya know what gets me? they all say god is great in his forgiveness. yet now let me give ya an example. know this dude really good guy. would almost give the shirt off his back if it would help you. now his background is horrible. came from a very christian family. raised on a farm with horses etc. one time his father caught him riding behind his sister on a horse. guy was all of 10yrs old. father saw it as sexual and beat the living daylights out of him. this is just one instance. many more. now he's a lot older is gay, doesn't believe in god. but again he is a great person. one of the best people i've ever known. now because of the way he was raised he has these issues. according to you self righteous fools he's going to go to hell. don't you think god would understand his circumstances and forgive him and bring him to heaven? if not hope your god smites you.

The problem with your book is that it was written by man and may or may not be true. Also it has gone through many translations, you have no idea if they copied it right, or where they really got the initial works from which it was made in 325 CE, when the Catholic Church created it for world control.

The next thing is you still have not shown proof of the existence of your or any other god.

"So you are betting your souls and the chance for a life without end on what?"

I got about that far and then stopped taking you seriously.

We don't bet our souls. We just tell the truth. God is a perfect idea created by flawed humans.

lol thats pretty much pascals wager you're spoutin out there

well don't stop there, you still are gambling with reality of other gods. What if you are wrong and one of those many gods are real, and you , sir, followed the wrong god. You might piss one of those many gods off. I'll just stay with my agnostic bet, and doubt all of them. Another Pascal's Wager.

    Pascal's Wager. *drink*

"Just in case" is a stupid reason to believe in anything.

What if Osiris is real? I guess we'll both be screwed.

Chrisianity and atheism are not the only choices.

If I die and there is a god. I'm just glad I was logical and rationalized what I believed in. I will still believe theists are the close-minded fools.

Why do Christians try using the bible to prove the bible is true? That's called circular logic and doesn't fly.

answer: since atheists and non-Christians don't believe your deity said anything of the sort, it really doesn't concern us, does it? Your deity isn't part of my religion or spirituality so I don't care what "he" says.
