Please explain the best way to create a password for my wireless network.?

Question

I just bought a new computer with Windows Vista (not liking it so far). Anyway, I have cable internet and computer has ethernet connection to cable modem/wireless router so that my laptop can access internet too. Problem, I have always had trouble securing my wireless internet so that others nearby cannot access it. I know it involves adding a password, but please explain it step by step. Thank you!

Ok, brand name is Motorola model #SB5120. Umm, I don't mean to sound stupid or anything, but what do you mean by log in to my router? Do I do that by using DOS commands? Is it IPConfig? then do I use that address? thank you

If you gave the brand name and model number I could help you some more, but see if this helps...

1. Log into your router (for most router's you can get there by typing 192.168.1.1 or something along those lines. If it's a Netgear one you can type routerlogin.net).
2. Look to see if there're any security categories (passwords and username options will most likely be in there)
3. Type in a username if you want something different then your default one. 
4. I use WEP encryption. Just select whatever encryption you want. Then type in a password and you're all set :) (in some routers, it can generate a random password for you)

do as answer 1 says only i would recommend using wpa as its more secure.
