Why is it that if a person is religious, some people think they're a freak or a nut?

I noticed some reporters calling Sarah Palin a "religious freak" and a "religious nut," she seems like a good person with high moral values. Shouldn't a person be judged by their character and not their beliefs?

I've noticed that. Just b/c you're religious doesn't make you a freak. Those people need to go to church. Some people just can't stand to hear the word of God though. I wonder why. Maybe the devil is in them. I think that's why they think a religious person is a freak and a nut.

well, this is not generally the case, i believe that religious people are a little nuts, but they are a majority of the population. Outside the box a belief such as christianity is no more ridiculous than a belief such as scientology. It's just here in the western world we are brainwashed on christianity from an early age and don't find it strange.

Palin is a special case, she is a fundamentalist and therefore labeled a nut by even those who are religouis themselves.

No one has seen her character only what said of beliefs or political stance. When it comes to designation of what called Third World and people say that vague objectives like Human Rights do not enter picture this not considered nuts. Also when images of a statue like the one pulled down in second Iraq War done media did not pick up on similarity to what done and said in Nazi invasion of Ukraine. Almost word for word except substitute Iraqis for Bolsheviks and talk of smiles and gratitude is same. Also when leaders in Cold War talk of tyranny and terror of Communism it sounds like what Nazis said in invasion of Russia where Nazis portrayed as saving people from terror of Bolshevism or Communism.

Religion is a PERSONAL MATTER. Everyone has some belief or other and if we all preached our personal beliefs, it is taken as an AGENDA.

The separation of Church and State, for that reason, should be upheld.

She's running for the 2nd highest office in the nation. She should be held to higher standards than the run-of-the-mill self-proclaimed "hockey mom". Spouting off using GOD to justify is like speaking for God. She is not an ordained minister, nor do people need to seek her for spiritual guidance. I suggest she keep a tasteful LID on her personal/spiritual views.

Acting superior because of your beliefs, makes people who may not subscribe to those beliefs--downright uncomfortable. It's that Fundamentalist Christian way of rabid asserting that "MY BELIEFS COME DIRECTLY FROM GOD and are the ONLY RIGHT BELIEFS" which will continue to be problematic.

She can't have it both ways. She can't be like you and me AND be the spokesperson for GOD. Don't use the podium as a pulpit.

Each person have different moral values ( what is normal for you ) may not be for me.

To me is someone is religious ( does not matter which one ) is because of a weak mind.

Don`t get me wrong I respect every religion there is , but when she mention the Irak war ( was from god ?? ) doesn`t seem to be a sane person, just like Bin Laden.

everybody has to have something to believe in they just refuse to accept if you do not think what they do then you are a freak or a nut . sad , I would rather have moral values and some form of ethic .
