preterite vs imperfect?

is the verb to enjoy preterite? the sentence is "they enjoyed the evening" . that is preterite right? what would "they enjoyed" translate to spanish.

i am in spanish 4 honors i am trying to put the verb to enjoy into the past tense. i want to say they enjoyed but i dont know if its the preterite or imperfect

    It's preterite.

    They enjoyed the evenng.

    Ellos disfrutaron la velada.

    The verb 'to enjoy' in Spanish is not preterite. It would be "Ellos disfrutan" in the present tense. Disfrutar- to enjoy
