Why does everyone say McCain=Bush?
Just because he is Republican? Remember, he has to stay true to his party or else he loses his support, so of course he is going to present a hardline on the Republican issues. But look at his many years of voting and see actual record. McCain often crosses party lines and has always been looked at as more liberal. I suspect he would do more of the same as president. And to all those who says he voted in agreement with Bush on 90% of the votes, look at the percentage of Democrats (let alone Biden and Obama) that voted along with Bush. Democrats forget that they drank as much of Bush's Kool Aid as the other Republicans did.

For the longest time I used to believe that, McCain is just parroting the standard party line in order to increase his acceptability by his party. But in checking out his actual position statement on the issues, he has increasingly become more conservative, and he really does mean it. The final straw came when he has openly declared that Samuel Alito is "the best justice we have" in the Surpreme Court, and "vows to nominate more like him". Alito is the most arch-conservative justice on the bench today, and most strongly espouses what's known as "unitary exexcutive", which grants the executive office virtually monarchal powers during any time national security seems to be threatened. McCain has made far too many comments reflecting his contempt for the Surpreme Court as an independent branch of the TRI-partrate system of government. He has adopted the ultraconservative view that there should only be a BI-partrate system of government, the Executive Office and the Legislative Branch, while the Supreme Court merely enforces, but never second guesses, what laws the Congress AND the President passes. This is an outright dangerous attack on the US Constitution as our founding fathers have originally envisioned it.
I've been a lifelong republican, but because of McCain's now ultraconservative stance (and really means it), and his cynical choice of another ultraconservative, Palin, as his VP, has finally convinced me to vote Democrat this year.

Just because he is a Republican. They don't dare go head to head with him on the issues.
McCain offers experience and knowledge necessary to get things done. He is also willing to discuss his plans and ideas in detail.
Obama only wants to talk about "Change". He really doesn't want anyone to question him too closely or take too close a look at the fine print. Bush isn't running but they have to find a way to run against him anyway. This is how they do it.

So they can leverage the anti Bush sentiment for an election victory in November. I don't think they really care whether it's accurate or meaningful.
Obama isn't Bush either, and he's not JFK or Clinton. He's the most liberal Democrat ever to run for President and will vote according to the special interests that get him elected, just like he does for those that got him into the Senate.

They say that because although McCain was once against the policies of G. Bush, has has changed to be more like him.

All the important issues that face us, McCain sides with Bush. The war in Iraq, the economy, healthcare, taxes, environment, none of it is any different than what we've seen for the past 8 years.

Because they are for the same policies, and a lot of the maverick things that he said in 2000 arent whats being shown here in 08.
- Anonymous1 decade ago
That would be incorrect of course.
The correct equation is:
Bush43+1 = McBush44...
McCain has not been a maverick since 2000. It is a little late at his age to go back to his good 'ol days.

They're talking about the policies that Bush has that McCain supports.
