The white thing in the egg?
Ok, this may be a little gross - but I love eggs but won't eat them out.
When I prepared them at home which I love sunny-side up the first thing I do when I crack it - I struggle getting the "hocker" out with the fork, but often times my egg breaks. It is so disgusting trying to cook with that in it. My question, what other type of utensil other than the fork can I used to avoid from breaking the yolk? Sorry, for the term, but this is one of my biggest issues when it comes to working with eggs.
Wow..thanks to everyone for the tips! I have a very sensitive stomache and I have been wanting to ask this question but thought it was gross. Especially, when I have seen eggs with them real huge (......) and sometimes bloody!
Hey about the chicken? Well, I don't eat chicken out either..why? Well, when I prepare it home, I buy the boneless and still, I always allow it to soak in cold water w/ salt and clean & rinse it out real good before marinating it. Guess what, it has loads of veins, lots of yellow fat as well as the wonderful tasting slime. Can you imagine biting into that tasty fried chicken at Kentucky Fry or anyplace else other than "your" kitchen?

Yeah. I hate that too. Here's a link that will show you how to do it right:

That little white speck is nothing more than the albumin protein where the yolk sack forms. It is NOT an umbilical cord, since eggs are unfertilized- that speck is as harmless as the rest of the egg-no need to be grossed out by it or remove it. Think of an egg like a womans period-if its not fertilized, its not a baby! If you must remove it, perhaps a small turkey baster would work? That way, you could get just the "hocker (lol) out, and leave the rest of your egg in tact? Just rethink what you consider that speck to be-its nothing but the start of where the egg forms-totally harmless, like the root of a tree.

How did you manage to develop that phobia
How freaky
you know the food industry ignores you fear and billions of eggs are in your YOUR daily food they sure did not freak out ...you eat that white stuff like it or not..
I wil not call it an umbilical cord because the shell can not be a uterus but I will consider that it maintain the yoke in the center of the egg and cooks into the white without notice
But freak out and stress what fork or plastic spoon to use
just remember your next sinus problem that you swallow
your phobia is unfounded

Crack egg into strainer? Or, for about 3 bucks you can buy a little device called an egg separator in kitchenwares departments or stores. Makes your life whole lot easier.

That thing is called the "chalaza," and it's a chick's umbilical cord.
Try digging it out with a plastic spoon after the egg is in the skillet but before it cooks all the way through.
