McCain's promise no more earmarks, but according to some GOP representatives is a promise he can't keep?

Is McCain making promises his own party won't back? it seems the more I read about the McCain and Palin ticket the more transparent it really is. Whats your take?

If McCain is elected, how can they stop him from vetoing the earmarks? How can they stop him from doing a press conference and giving the name of the congressional member and earmarks they are asking for?

How can they stop him from running a website that shows the congressional members name and the total earmarks they are asking for?

Trust me, there are plenty of way to guilt them into stopping.

Well, the problem with the article is that it did not mention some very specifc things:

    1) An earmark could easily be changed into a budget item and be passed as part of the budget. The idea that anyone is going to care when they can't figure out if Iraq has a border with Pakistan is a relic of another era. If McCain is insane enough to get rid of earmarks, they will simply find their way into the budget process. Big deal.

    2) There are some valid earmarks, i.e., veterans hospitals, that McCain has said he would not veto. Because it takes so long to get a budget passed earmarks can be a quick way to get spending done.

    3) Even invalid earmarks are 'good' if they help get your legislation passed. Give Stevens his bridge and suddenly you can drill in Alaska.

I I do not understand all the fuss about earmarks on either side. We send our representatives to Congress to represent our state for the purpose of getting money. Perhaps if more of our State tax dollars went to the state and not the Feds. the states would not have to beg, borrow and steal to function. Last year my husband and I paid $24,000.00 in Federal taxes and $3,043.00 to the state. Why not split the total bill down the middle. Image what a state could do with the money and then not have to rely on the Feds.

It doesn't matter whether its McCain or Obama. The fact is no matter what politician says what, the promises are hard to keep. They can promise lower taxes, and spending less in regards to earmarks, however with the current economic crisis, a lot of those promises will have to take a back seat. We need to focus on the first thing first. Whoever our next president is they will have a full plate of issues to deal with..

Aid to Israel comes in the form of an Earmark, do you think he is really gonna cut all earmarks. I got a bridge in Alaska I really need to get off my hands, you interested?

Earmarks are under 1% of the national budget. I wish he would talk about really cutting spending.

Its not just McCain promising no more earmarks, its also Obama. Both are off! B.O.'s message is the one who changes his talk and therefore confuses people into thinking that he didn't say anything on this issue.

I think when McCain is president he can and WILL VETO all Earmarks- that has been one major problem in Washington that he has ALWAYS been against and has NEVER asked for Earmarks himself. Yesterday he said when someone asks for Earmarks I will Tell You The People WHO it is , and VETO IT!

If you don't know that McCain/Palin will say anything to get elected, then you haven't been paying attention.
