Are you more inclined to dislike someone because of the team(s) they root for?

Such as if you're a Yankees fan, will you find it harder to be friendly with a Red Sox fan because of their allegiance? Red Sox fans, same question, but in reverse.

I only ask this because I find it weird that you could dislike someone simply because of the team they root for. Now, if they act like jerks, that's a different story.

Update:

To brady.jim55: Not just a Syracuse fan. I'm a Syracuse alum.

Never. I have come across some really great Red Sox fans, on here and in real-life. I wouldn't automatically be less friendly to someone because of what baseball team they root for. That is just plain stupid to do. The team you cheer for does not define who you are as a person.

I agree with you, it is strange to actually dislike someone on the basis of their team allegiance. I'm a Bears fan and have a brother-in-law who is a Packers fan, we'll kid each other about how much the other person's team sucks but we get along great. I'm also a Cubs fan and know people who are Cardinals fans and even White Sox fans but ti doesn't change the relationship.

I would definitely look at people and judge solely on their actions and intentions, not for something trivial as whom they root for.

"most" people follow (passionately) teams for the least personal reasons.

If you are born in the New England area, what are the odds you are going to be a Red Sox fan. Probably quite high. Take that exact same person and have them born in Utah. Now, the odds are probably quite low.

Take a child born to a dad who's a die hard Yankee fan, but born in Mississippi. Probably will grow to be a Yankee fan. Exact same scenario, but the dad is a Cards fan. That kid will probably be a Cards fan.

    Place of birth

    Parents preference

    Success

I think they are the top 3 reasons for fandom

If you are born in Alaska, your parents like the Astros, there is VERY LITTLE chance that you will actively follow the Marlins.

To base the value of a friendship on something so trivial. ahh, not for me.

  • Oh no. See as a white sox fan I dont hate all cubs fans personally. Actually the Cubs have the greatest fans in the world. To bad there team sucks. lol There still friends and family and all that though.

    I don't understand the question.

All baseball fans are appreciated by me except the "haters" and all other "ill informed people" that disrespect the game.

Baseball is a game, not a means to hate either, other fans of other teams, or a particular team.

Isn't this still the America that can respect those of different opinion and refrain from derogatory comments about their teams?

Sheesh. Let's all stand up for our teams, but refrain from attacking other fans and their teams.

Some people take their love for a team to far. You can like whatever team you like just don't be a but about it. I'm a Eagles and Phillies fan and I get it from everybody. It all depends on the person, and the team they support.

I don't care what team someone roots for. I dislike people who write like retarded first graders. It's a pleasure to come across people in here who write like an adult, like Greta and Chipmaker. When you see people expressing a viewpoint with the spelling and grammar of a drunk monkey, those are the ones I dislike and cannot take seriously.

It depends on how they act if you ask me. In '89, I was in San Francisco when the Giants and the Cubs were battling it out, and it was pretty obvious whom was the lone Cubs fan in the house! (Me!) Those Giants fans were nice as hell, though, with no bad language or nasty comments directed my way.

On the other hand, my cousin grew up in Dallas, and he actually likes...the Cowboys! Yech! My worst NFL team in the world! I still love my cousin, but not his NFL team!

    God bless the Chicago Cubs!

    Go Rays! Beat BoSox!

If I like someone, then I like them. Everyone has their own ideals and preferences. My best friend is a Republican AND a Yankee fan. Me, I'm Democrat and a Rays fan. We've been best of friends for years.

Makes for some lively debates. We can agree to disagree.
