What does my PC need to improve gaming?

Most games have a poor frame rate, making them unplayable. What do I need to improve?

These are m PC stats:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2140 @ 1.60GHz

512 MB RAM

32 - bit Operating System

Mirage Graphics Card (unsure of the details)

Update:

I'm not really bothered about playing the top of the line games like COD4 and whatnot... I've got an xbox for that. The type of games I'm intrested in arn't as new as these - things like C&C and Unreal Torni 2.

For sure you need to increase your RAM - top of the range games - at least 2 GB of RAM needed.

CPU processor could be faster too and a more up-to date graphics card - basically you need an overhaul.

Boost your RAM. You've got a good chance you can double operationspeed for a low cost if u go on ebay, even cheaper.

Frame Rate refers to Frames Per Second a term to measure speed at which content is 'streamed' to your computer.

If this is the case, you may also find it beneficial to scale up your internet connection a couple of notches. Again, not very costly. Check with your ISP.

These are the steps I would take before expending any serious sums of money.

    Hope this helps.

It depends on what kind of games that you want to play.

1.60GHz is sad,512mb ram is kind of low & it sounds like a built in video card so it's not enough either.

Too be honest you need a new computer.

If you can't get a new computer a new video card with at least 256mbs of ram should help.

My vid card is only 128mbs but I have almost twice the processor & twice the RAM that you have & some games like COD4 still won't run on my comp.

You're going to need a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and most importantly, a better video card. No offense, but your Mirage card is basically crap.

If you've got an AGP8x system, you could get away with replacing the video card, however, that won't last you for very long.

    basically everythng!!

You can go mad spending on a gaming machine!!

you could do with over a Gb of RAM

over 2gHz of CPU speed and at least a Gb of decent video card!

I would say go for AMD stuff all the way and also ATI stuff...dont bother with that Intel crap!

nvidia video card around 512 or 1gb (8800 gtx is good)

and while playing try to end some useless processes from task manager (ctrl+shift+esc)

You might want to try and upgrade your processor to a Intel(R) Dual-core E6600 and change out your memory to about 2 gigs preferably.

If your Graphics Card is built in Upgrade it at the same time upgrading RAM is necessary

  • Sorry to say it..but everything.
