Is it OK to perform an activity like chopping wood during the early stages of pregnancy?
Occasionally I help out my OH in chopping fire wood. I'm in my early stages of pregnancy and was wondering if this is too strenuous a job for me to be doing whilst pregnant? I'm not booked in to see the mid-wife till the end of the month and was wondering if anyone here has been given any advice relating to something similar to this.
Any advice is appreciated!

Ok, first of all I have to let you know that your question made me laugh! Sorry but I didn't expect to see "chopping wood". I thought you were going to ask about running or other common activites people ask about -- I seriously didn't see "chopping wood" coming, lol. :)
I agree with what the other people said about continuing doing activites you normally did before pregnancy. But, in your question, you said you only chopped wood "occasionally". If it wasn't a common thing you did, I wouldn't advise you do it while pregnant. You never want to put your baby's health in jeopardy. And if you question it, just be safe and pass on the activity. Congrats & wishes for a healthy baby! :)

I was a real gym addict and asked my midwife a similar question she told me that you can continue with any physical activity during pregnancy that you did before you were pregnant, however it is inadvisable to take up anything new or to do any form of abdominal exercise. I did Body Pump classes 3 times a week until I was 7 months pregnant, then the bump was a bit in the way so I stopped.

If you are used to exercises like that, then yes it should be OK. Like jogging is OK if you are used to it. (it's not a good idea to take it up whilst pregnant...)
My wife always thinks (talks) of the African women who get on with the ploughing and all sorts of other things... There aren't many things my wife doesn't do; we're expecting our third baby and the other two are not exactly 'helpful' toddlers...
People will probably say don't chop firewood, but if you are USED to it than it should be OK...

You shouldn't be doing anything strenuous right now. Especially chopping wood. You should be taking it easy.

You should be relaxing and getting all the rest you need right now. The early stage is the most crucial in your baby's developement.

I wouldn't but I have been ttc for almost two years now and have had two early miscarriages..
with my child that I have I was ripping out old carpet at 8 months pregnant.
you know when you are pushing yourself, just don't push it.
but to answer your question, I wouldn't.

Try to be careful of doing stuff like that. You don't want to damage yourself or the baby. You are going to want to save your strength for the events to come. Congrats by the way!!!
