Why do Republicans always let the fox guard the hen house when it comes to Wall Street?

But it doesn't just stop at Economic Oversight Committees (like appointing the CEO of Citibank to watch over credit card fraud) - it also applies to every other sector:

As a senator from Michigan from 1995 to 2001, Abraham introduced legislation to abolish the Department of Energy. After Abraham lost his re-election, Bush appointed him to run the Department of Energy.

The Bush administration appointed W. David Hager, a controversial doctor who has authored books about Christ's abilities to heal specific women's illnesses through prayer, to the Food and Drug Administration's Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee.

George W. Bush nominated Jerry Thacker, an extreme, right-wing evangelical Christian who has called AIDS the "gay plague," to the Presidential Advisory Commission on HIV and AIDS.

Update:

60 min man - Barney Frank is a congressman on a congressional committee - that is different because Barney Frank was actually elected by the people.

Update 2:

dnafairy - Bush has absolutely NOT done more for AIDS in his own country... he cut Ryan White Funding down to 1/3 it's original size and new infections have gone up again.

Republicans are corrupt to the core. The profits they receive for themselves are private, while the losses have been socialized.

What kind of "free market" system is it where people can make money hand over fist by being reckless and irresponsible, but the government (the same government that stresses "personal responsibility" for the little people) bails out the losses?

Bush has helped AIDS in Africa, although that Abstinence vow was more than ridiculous. Even Laura wanted that removed, or so I hear. But Washington, D.C. is riddled with AIDS. The Black section of town is sick, with few educational programs and very little financial help. The status of AIDS among the Blacks in this country is scandalous.

Bush is an Evangelical Christian. He probably believes that prayer will cure the AIDS epidemic, with no help from the government or the medical society. This explains why many governmental posts are filled with Evangelical Christians and, in Iraq, there is a large group of them, cheering our troops and telling them they are "soldiers of the Lord." The Evangelical belief that God is telling them to march on to Israel explains the fervor for the war to continue and the enthusiasm over War with Iran. It also explains their fear of diplomacy. Good Heavens, if Obama speaks with the president of Iran, it may throw a monkey wrench in the Crusade!

Because Bush places his cronies and Evangelical believers in crucial posts, it explains why our governmental agencies are so inept. They are led by radicals and are understaffed, untrained and incapable.

When it comes to Wall Street, Republicans are struck with awe! Here are the Money Gods, the ones who really count! This is why they do not want to help the poor or give a penny in taxes. The more money, the better the Republican!

I find it ironic the poster is bringing up AIDS and the Bush administration when Bush is widely acknowledged by both political sides as being the most pro-active president to deal with AIDS on a global scale ever.

Anyway, back to the economy. Now what will we do? The government is taking ownership of several large financial institutions. That's nationalization. Now who's going to watch over the government?

A better analogy- the scorpion and the frog. The frog agrees to take the scorpion across the river, as the scorpion will die too if he stings the frog mid-stream. The scorpion does just that and while sinking to their shared doom, the frog asks why.

    "Because I am a scorpion."

You cannot deregulate the markets to the point that greed can overcome financial sense. These people are scorpions and will die to get that last dollar.

So they can prove to the American people that government just doesn't work?

Got to love it. Yikes. What a mess.

McCain is talking about reform. How is that different from change that Obama has been talking about? Just because you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. heehee

barney frank, a dem, is in charge of oversight for the baking industry. he should have been awake. both parties pushed for easier bank loans so that lower income americans could afford a home. and those same people are the ones who defaulted on those loans. not a political party issue.

Now why don't you be fair and list the sins of the Democrats? Washington is corrupt as ever and THAT is what all of us are fed up with.

Plain and simple, because they're IDIOTS and are pretty smug about the fact that they can hood-wink the nation.

In the beginning, AIDS was the "gay plague." It used to be called GRID.

Then it spread to the heterosexual community.

    Educate thyself.
